In terms of great player vs great player there are similarities. But Magic and Bird have a way deeper history. More than LeBron and Durant ever will.

Already is the next Great Rivalry, even without a finals rematch. Lebron and KD are on a different level.

*Race - Lets be honest...Bird was the great white hope and many white people rooted for him because he was white as many blacks and other minorities rooted against him because he was white...

*The Boston/LA comparison - This added on to the racial imagery that was used to promote this rivalry. Boston was supposedly blue collar hard working town that contrasted with the bright lights and flashy showtime of Los Angeles. This pulled as many people to each side as the race issue.

*The fact that they traded dominance over the years - There wasnt really a period where one went on a extended period of dominance over the other. Magic won the matchup in college. Bird was rookie of the year, but magic won a title and was finals MVP.. And obviously the way they traded titles over the years. The argument was never truly settled, and Im sure that is the way the NBA likes it

great rivalry, but alot of it was circumstance and timing. I would appreciate the NBA and stern a little more if they stop trying to recreate old moments and help the NBA build new ones.. Durant and Lebron are not like Bird & Magic, but if we have a little patience and sit back and enjoy their careers? we may see something just as entertaining.

Well Miami vs OKC doesn't have the blue collar city vs flashy hollywood city thing going, but it does have the naturally created team vs the evil Lebron James Decision empire thing going for it.

Last year basically everyone was rooting for OKC, except for the few people who had been with Miami from the start of the Decision era.

LeBron vs. Durant is nothing like Magic vs. Bird, literally.

Its just reaching, much like NBA was pushing "Kobe as good as Jordan", and even that is closer than this topic...

Not really. Not at all actually. Bird was one of the greatest passers ever, as well as one of the GOAT scorers. Magic was the GOAT passer, but not a great scorer. Neither played D as well as Durant, or LeBron do.

It wouldn't make sense to say LeBron is like Bird, and Durant like Magic because the latter have nothing in common, and LeBron is like Magic, except he's a much better scorer.

This just doesn't work.

Is LeBron v. Durant an actual rivalry? I don't get that feeling at all.

I thought it is some media fabrication trying to bring more fans to the NBA. And they have done a poor job doing so.

Perk and Z-bo is 50x the rivalry LeBron and Durant is Just because the two best players in the world play the same position and they happened to meet in the Finals last year, doesn't make it a rivalry. I don't see anything resembling tension between the two. Not even close.

This "rivalry" is so weak. You don't get any sense that each player is desperate to outdo the other.

I really wish T-Mac could have developed himself into a winner with durability/longevity and had a longer thriving rivalry with Kobe, because their match-ups were far more electric and full of fireworks.
