Hawks send: Smith, Tolliver
Hawks receive: Turner, Humphries, Shengelia, 2013 1st round pick (Nets)

I don't see why if the Hawks won't pay Josh Smith, they would commit to Gerald Wallace for 4 years.

In the bigger picture, what are the Hawks trying to do anyway? Cut salary? I never understood them as a franchise. They're the perfect example of always being half committed to a course of action. Either suck or be good, not this in between bullshit.

You know I spent to much time following the NETS, I knew Brooks and Humphies before i read the article.
I don't think the Hawks bite, but I'd love to see it happen. Would make us the 2nd best team in the East.

Couple things I think people are overlooking.

1. Josh Smith wants a MAX contract, and not every team thinks he's worth it. I personally don't consider Smith a franchise player. To me, he's the ultimate glue player, not the centerpiece.

2. Josh Smith has to agree to sign a MAX extension with whichever team trades for him. Otherwise, teams are trading for a half-season rental.

You are badly overrating Smith. He is a bad offensive player, shoots way too often and poorly.

1. The Hawks offered Josh 3 years, 47 million, which is a max contract, the most that the Hawks can offer right now. After the season, they can offer him a 4 or 5 year deal. The idea that the Hawks won't pay him max isn't accurate.

2. The trade talk is to help motivate him. Last time, Josh was a free agent, the Hawks told any team they would match up to a max contract. There were teams that talked to him, but no one made an offer except Memphis. But it worked in terms of getting into his head about his play.

3. Josh wanted a more free flowing offense, so why would he want to go to Brooklyn and run the iso-offense they run, which is similar to what the Hawks did the last few years?

4. The Hawks are still probably considering a serious push for Dwight Howard. Maybe trading Al Horford to get a small forward and moving Louis Williams for cap space. Who knows.

5. If the Hawks don't get Howard, they might make a serious run at Pekovic, moving Josh to small forward.

what the hell, last week nets were rumoured to have offered humphries and a pick for Turk as they can buy him out and sign him cheap. Now they throw in redick for brooks? LOL keep dreaming. Not to mention the horrible rape atlanta take in this trade.
