Haters doing revisionist history right now? Every one knows 2004 was the team playing like crap, I remember shaq missing some easy sh1t down low and Malone Payton ultimately su.cking. Kobe payed bad too, but no1 QUIT.

I'm sorry to tell ya haters, but the Houdini Lebron pulled on his team, single-handedly costing them a ring in unprecedented in Finals history, I don't know how Wade is still his friend tbh...

Yeah, the Lakers losing the 2004 Finals was all Kobe's fault. The rest of the team outside of Shaq shooting 33%, Malone injured, Shaq's lazy play defensively and on the boards, and Payton's atrocious play had nothing to do with it. It's all Kobe's fault. That's why the biggest blow-out loss came in the game where he only had 13 shots, right?

What a moron.

Yup. Also let's just ignore the fact that the '04 Pistons are one of the greatest defensive teams in NBA history if not the greatest.

Why do people rewrite history when it comes to that 2004 finals? Nobody would claim Kobe had a good, or even respectable series for a player of his caliber. His shot selection in particular was terrible (but at least he played good defense in that series).

But not only that, Tex Winter criticized Shaq's play in that series for being lazy on defense and the glass, and not establishing position in the paint... and I think Shaq only had the one great game that series.

During the '04 series Shaq wasn't getting in position to get the ball. (when he did he was able to score though). But even if you look at the game where Kobe wasn't looking to score, Shaq still couldn't get off. That's why Phil made the comment about wasting Shaq's great game cause he knew Shaq couldn't bring that level of energy every game. Karl Malone was hurt. Gary Payton was a bad fit and even criticized the triangle offense that year. And the Lakers really had no one else to take those shots so of course it was left to Kobe to gun, it wasn't him just forcing up bad shots.

The Lakers own coaches came out saying how Shaq wasn't working for position and wasn't working to get the ball. You can make the judgment on if that was just Shaq pouting cause he wasn't getting the ball enough or you can credit Detroit's defense. Shaq had some great offensive games but was slow defensively coming off the pick and Rip and Chauncy got to the rim at will. Payton averaged 4 ppg on 32% shooting in that series and looked slow defensively as Billups torched him for 21 ppg on 51% shooting and 47% on 3s. Malone was limping around that whole series. He couldn't contribute due to his injury and was a non-factor. Neither played at any notable level that series. To completely blame Kobe for losing is absolutely ridiculous considering the level they were actually at during that series. Malone due to being a 40/41 year old playing through an injury, and Payton was just embarrassingly incompetent. Don't remake your own history by looking up some box scores. Anyone can do that.

Kobe cost his team a title in 2004 and 2008. And his performance in those finals was wayyyy worse than Lebron's 2011 performance, Even Kobe's 2010 finals was way worse than Lebron's 2011 performance.

Kobe without a dominant front court is a first round loss just like Tmac (the 3 seasons in his prime after Shaq and before Gasol prove that)

Why hold that series against him? First of all, where was his help? There was no Laker who played well enough to prevent a legendary Celtic defense from swarming him. Gasol reverted to Gasoft in that series making Kobe's poor shooting series perfectly understandable. Look at what LeBron did vs that Celtic defense, he shot under 36% and averaged over 5 turnovers.

Costed is a word in certain contexts, just not in this one. I looked it up just out of curiosity lol.

He didn't play well at all in the 2004 Finals or 2008 Finals. Let's not pretend otherwise, Kobe fans.

Then to be even more honest, he struggled quite a bit for half an entire series in both the 2001 Finals, and the 2010 Finals.

The 2000 Finals he was banged up, but had a memorable moment when he closed out a Shaq-less game v.s. the Pacers in OT. But wasn't a memorable Finals in total by any stretch.

He played well in the 2002 Finals, and played good in the 2009 Finals.

So he had two good Finals out of SEVEN Finals appearances, and the two he played well in weren't legendary or near as epic or iconic for a player of his caliber, IMO.

It to me in retrospect slightly dampened his worth as a player.

2/7 Finals for good performances (2002, 2009)

3/7 Finals for meh or decent performances (2000, 2001, 2010)

2/7 Finals for bad performances (2004, 2008)

Notice, no "GREAT" or "LEGENDARY" stamps on any of his Finals appearances.

No 81 point game explosions, not even a 50 point game. For supposedly the best scorer of all-time? Odd. His Finals performance overall have been greatly disappointing. Even the most hardcore Kobe fan has to agree they expected him to deliver more on that stage.

As for LeBron? Don't think I forgot about you LeBron Youngins, let's break down his grand stage performances under the bright lights.

1/3 Finals for ATROCIOUS performance (2011)

1/3 Finals for bad performance (2007)

1/3 Finals for pretty good performance (2012)
