It is absolutely stupid. Olympics is all about sports that every countries can take part of. All you need for amateur wrestling is a big mat and proper clothing. Also, best wrestlers can be found from around the world, USA, Eastern Asian countries, Iran and other Middle Eastern countries, Central Asian countries, etc.
If they cut wrestling then Judo should be gone too. It is about the same sport with few different rules.
Oh, and about table tennis, haters should stay away. It is a real sport that some people simply ignore it because they suck and don't want to take it seriously.

Am I the only person who actually likes amateur wrestling? There's not a lot of entertainment in it, it's slow-pace but if you like strategy then you'll like it.

There were, and they all failed. It is very difficult to promote legit wrestling when in most people's mindset wrestling is fake.
Yeah MMA is as close as you're gonna get to a legit wrestling league. Granted a lotta people complain about the wrestlers slowing things down and creating boring fights, but you'll still see plenty of it on any given card.
