My question is if he's not playing in the NBA doesn't his contract get nulled after a few years?

No his contract doesn't get "nulled," he was amnestied which means the Magic have to pay him the exact value of his contract but his salary doesn't count against the cap or for luxury tax purposes. Basically they owed him $20,807,922 this year and $22,346,536 next season.

If you have any questions about the salary cap, trade rules, and other aspects of the NBA's 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement check here >>>> http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm.

This is simply not true, in the NBA 90 of contracts are guaranteed which means when players are bought out they still get their money. Just check the cap numbers for the Hornets, who are paying Lewis $13.7 mil this season after trading Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza for his partially unguaranteed contract.

I don't expect Rashard Lewis to ever play a game in a Hornets uniform. He'll likely be bought out before July 1. If the Hornets do that, they can cut almost half of the $24 million he's owed in the final year of his ridiculous six-year, $118 million contract.
