The 20th season of Major League Soccer is apon us!!
After LA Galaxy winning MLS Cup again, David Beckham officially parted way with MLS to Paris. But in the process, the Galaxy managed to get another big name British player in the name of Frank Lampard who will join the team in July.
Another big move during the off-season is that Real Salt Lake, the team known for being a strongly-built team with lower budget, finally decided to blow the team up and shipped a bunch of its core players to New York Red Bulls.
The NYRB had a disappointing season even they were in the Playoff and also are making few roster moves including parting way with problematic Rafael Marquez. With additions of Espindola, Olave, and the legendary free kick specialist Juninho, Thierry Henry and pals will try to capture the champion again.
Other notable departing players include Brek Shea, Dane Richards, Fredy Montero and Kei Kamara.
Chivas USA's Shalrie Joseph has reportedly been traded to Seattle Sounders for a 2nd round pick in 2014 SuperDraft. The former New England Revolution star was traded mid-season last year to Chivas and struggled there.
I'm content with the Red Bulls offseason but I still thought it was a bit poorly done
-Getting rid of Marquez(that alone makes it a good offseason)
-Juninho! Beast! He looks like a great addition so far and still has alot of gas in the tank despite his age
-More depth. Depth has been one of our achilles heals for the past couple of seasons and we got some caliber players/depth players in Olave, Espindola, Kimura and players like Alexander, Christensen, Izueqeria look like solid additions that were low level signings or draftees
-Roy Miller is still on the squad. How the **** does that happen? Plus we got a new FK specialist in Juninho.... We got rid of Lindpere but we still keep Miller? Absurd
-Letting Cooper go... It's going to hurt us big time. He was underappreciated here and you don't simply replace 17 goals from a target striker like that. I don't see Espindola coming close to that.. Something tells me King Henry wasn't satisfied with Cooper
-The Managerial position. I'm not that mad with hiring Petke but I don't think he's ready yet. They struck out with their managerial pursuit.
Solid 5-1-1 preseason showing for the Galaxy, and ready for the season more than ever.
Adding Cudicini is huge for our D and Collin Clark isn't bad. No real notable losses out of Becks, but I'll miss Bryan Jordan and also wish Boyens was kept. Expecting a nice 2-0 win over the Fire to start the campaign.
TFC's Torsten Frings has announced his retirement after 18 years in soccer.
36-years-old Frings cites he cannot recover from hip surgery he did last September that force him to miss the rest of 2012 season fast enough. He did try to return and have one appearance in a pre-season game though.
Good luck for your next career, Mr. Frings!
On the other hand, signing an equally-old Julio Cesar as a back-up (at first) seems like a great move now. I hope Frings' retirement will open up an DP spot for others to come in very soon.
