Default hawkfan Trade Scenario: Lakers and Rockets

Rockets get

Steve Blake (expirer)

Lakers get

Jeremy Lin

The Lakers get Lin, who is still developing his point guard skills. He worked out well with MDA in New York and he should do well with him again. He'll be able to run the offense and develop further with Kobe Bryant helping him.

Steve Nash is seriously declining and will be even further next season and needs to be put in a reserve role.

Lin would work out well with either Gasol and/or Howard in the pick and roll and he can get to the rim, which is something the Lakers don't have anyone who can do this right now.

When Kobe comes back, Lin's role as scorer in reduced, but his role as point guard is expanded.

The Rockets turn the point guard duties over to Beverly with Blake as a reserve.

I doubt the Rockets would do this because Nash is old.
Nash at this point would still be a good backup for the Lakers.
Also I doubt the Lakers would do this since he took a paycut to play in LA, and there is an unwritten rule that teams don't trade guys that do that. But you never know.

You know, I actually like this trade idea, but to be honest, I doubt Houston wants to let go of a cash cow like Jeremy Lin so easily. They can pander to the Asian community with Lin on their roster.

But it gives the Rockets cap space to go after high level free agents. Also Harden and Lin don't really blend well together - their games are similar.

Bryant's foot speed is gone, so he could really use a point guard who can get to the rim to free him up for jump shots. Also Kobe and Lin in the pick and roll would work well.

Then the Lakers can do this:

Lakers get

Landry Fields

Raptors get

Metta World Peace (expirer)

The Lakers get Fields to team with MDA and Lin again. Fields provides youth, athleticism and rebounding, which the Lakers need badly.

The Raptors get an expirer in Peace to help rebuild their roster. They would probably re-package Peace in another trade going forward with other expirers (like Kleiza).

Why would Houston do this? Beverley is not starting PG material.

Lin and Nash running together for the Lakers when they would go to small ball might be interesting.

Harden for expiring works too?

Can we add in some draft picks on top of that?

McHale seems like Beverly over Lin, which doesn't make sense to me but it is what it is. If I were the Rockets I wouldn't trade Lin, but McHale isn't trying to develop Lin.
