Yea, it's John Amaechi....

For now, itís just a rumor, but it has the potential to turn into a rather explosive story. According to the Sports Business Daily (via Sports On My Mind, a great blog, by the way), former NBA player John Amaechi is set to announce his homosexuality in a book slated for release on February 14th. Reportedly, the book is called Man in the Middle.

Amaechi, a Boston native (raised in Stockport, England) currently working as a broadcaster in Britain, was a mediocre NBA center who played sparingly during five forgettable seasons, making stops in Cleveland, Orlando, and Utah. There are rumors circulating that he was a visible presence in Utahís gay community while he played for the Jazz.

Of course no one will really care about Amaechi coming out; what makes this story so juicy is the possibility that heíll out some other players. Representatives for the New Jersey Nets could not be reached for comment.

Really thought it was Laphonso Ellis...Dude was always lookin' fruity on the Heat bench a few years ago..

Well, Amaechi didnt make much money during his time in the league, so I guess he wants to earn some with the book...

for some weird reason i still remember that Amaechi was amazingly good in NBA live, with the Orlando jersey.

Word out of LA is that Cuttino Mobley is working the phones trying to lobby for a Clipper trade for John Amaechi.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think it's completely unimpressive to come out after you retire?

If a player who was currently in the league came out, that would take some huge balls. Aftwerward? *****. I mean, he can come out whenever he wants, but it's not a big deal at this point; quit pretending you're doing something significant.
