Default Best bigs defending on the perimeter? Best wings defending in the post?

Today and all-time.

I have a good idea of who the first few names thrown out there will be, but after them there will probably be some interesting mentions.

Anyhow, who comes to mind?

Vince Carter comes to mind. I didn't realize it until JVG mentioned it one night and it rang very true to me. The guy is unbelievably strong. To be that strong and still move that fluidly was his primary talent; the jumping and dunking were just for show.

Maybe Shawn Marion in the post?
And Josh Smith on the perimeter?

Those were firsts on my mind.

KG and Noah are two of the best bigs defending the perimeter in recent memory. Camby was also pretty decent at that back in his day.

Paul pierce is a better post defender now than on perimeter

Jason kidd is very good post defense wise.

Anthony davis has done very well when defending on perimeter.

Are we talking about bigs defending wings on the perimeter and wings defending bigs down low?

That's what I had in mind, but you can answer either way you want.

Best bigs defending on the perimeter?

Rodman & Garnett.

Best wings defending in the post (defending bigs)?

Pippen & Lebron.

There are some others who could do it well, but not to the magnitude/capability those above could and did.

Hakeem, Garnett and Russell. Pretty much the best All-time trio what concerns bigs and versatility. DRob isnt far back too.

Might even give a nod to Rus and KG, because they communicated, ran their team D (including perimeter) as a well oiled machine.

Hakeem and DRob relied purely on their own freakish athleticizm and quickness. While it was an elite D, but it cant be as effective as a team D, orchestrated on such level by only two guys in NBA history.

...and if you consider Pippen/Lebron "bigs" due to their size as they did play PF sometimes (especially Lebron) and there were many PFs who were smaller then you could go with Pippen/Lebron for both questions....

Thread creator seems like he might have been scheming for this answer to begin with ... IE LeBron. Same goes for his last thread (best full court and half court players)

I wouldn't consider Pippen or LeBron bigs. They are wings. Not smalls (PG / SG) or bigs (PF / C) ... they are small forwards.

The drifter position between back court and front court. Usually the most versatile position guy on the team by nature, given their size, guard like skill set and athletic ability in comparison to the heavier, slower of foot power forwards and big men.

hes not the best, but tristan thompson is really good at defending guards/wings out on the perimeter. stays low, uses his length, and always seems to force tough shots.
