So wait, the game boiled down to Howard's missed freethrows? Were they all in a row at the end of the game or were there other players missing shots throughout the game? He was the only player that missed a shot or something like that?

You can't get momentum as a team with Dwight getting fouled and bricking 2 freethrows every other time you go down the court

Better yet, how did they do in the finals? Relying on 3s for half your points is a recipe for failure in pressure situations.

It was largely because of the system in place (Rashard Lewis, starting PF, camping on the perimeter taking literally 7 three's a game). The Magic played outside-in as much as they played inside-out. In the playoffs that season, Howard was their best player, yet he took the 4th most shots on his team (behind Rashard, Turk, and Alston).

You look at, say, prime Duncan and prime Shaq and they were never that low on their teams offensive totem pole in terms of volume of shots. They were at times surrounded by three point shooters just like Howard, but they were also head-and-shoulder better shot creators out of the post and picking apart defenses using their skills.

Howard's usage-% was 26.1 in the RS and dropped to a fairly low 23.3 in the playoffs as the scoring evened out (Turk, Rashard, Alston, Pietrus all had some big games, as did Howard).

Very well until he got hurt and went to the Lakers. Meanwhile several of the guys that played on that Orlando Finals team are on the back of milk cartons.

Dwight doesn't have Wilt or Shaq hands (giant hands)...so he can be a better FT shooter, he just doesn't want to get better. He's been in the league for years now.

There's no way that he makes 20 or 30 in a row or is anywhere near 80% like they say he is in practice. This guy just plain sucks at shooting the ball from a distance.
