NEW YORK, Feb. 25, 2013 – The Houston Rockets today signed center Tim Ohlbrecht for the 18th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2012-13 NBA Development League season. Ohlbrecht joins more than 115 NBA players with NBA D-League experience currently on NBA rosters.
Ohlbrecht (6-11, 255, Germany) has appeared in 32 games, 29 starts, for the Vipers this season, averaging 13.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. A 2013 NBA D-League All-Star, Ohlbrecht scored 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor to go with a game-high 12 rebounds for the Prospects team in a 139-125 win over the Futures squad. At the time of his signing, Ohlbrecht led the NBA D-League in field goal percentage (.605, 164-of-271).
A member of the German National team, Ohlbrecht is expected to join the Rockets today and be available when the team hosts the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
Re: Houston signs Tim Ohlbrecht to multi-year deal
He's a good player. He's had a few appearances for the German national team and he really impressed me at the D-League showcase. He hustles hard, plays decent defense, can knock down jumpers from mid range, and has some nice moves and a soft touch in the paint. Not a bad guy to fill out a roster.
Re: Houston signs Tim Ohlbrecht to multi-year deal
Really respect how he earned his spot through D-League after not being drafted 2010. Not many Euros would hustle that hard for a spot in a NBA roster. Here's hoping he does well!

He went to the same school I did and played for the same club (though not my age class). Really humble and nice, and very dedicated. I'm happy for him that it has worked out this well.

Supposedly he turned down guaranteed 6 figure deals in Europe to take a 13k non guaranteed deal in the NBDL.

That's complete bullshit. He ASKED for those deals from Skyliners and Alba and they didn't want to sign him. You can't "turn down" an offer the club didn't make to you.

Going undrafted when he was automatically eligible for the draft in 2010, Ohlbrecht was scrutinized at times for his inability to meet the lofty expectations set out for him as a teen, where he was a contributor for Telkom Baskets Bonn and Brose Baskets Bamberg in Euroleague and EuroCup competition nonetheless. He played in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 with the German national team, which is a significant accomplishment for a player who just turned 20 years old.
After spending all seven of his seasons as a pro playing in Germany, Ohlbrecht raised some eyebrows when he decided to enter the 2013 NBADL Draft, sending his career on a nearly unprecedented trajectory for a former highly touted international draft prospect. Despite being offered guaranteed six-figure (net) contracts in his home country, he elected to sign a C-Level contract in the D-League for $13,000 (non-guaranteed)."
