Default 2013 World Baseball Classic Thread

Yep, it is back!! WBC starts off today and goes through out March!

Pool A
Japan (The defending champion, shit loads of top NPB players)
China
Cuba (shit loads of great "amateur" players who haven't deported yet)
Brazil (good mixes of minor-level MLB and NPB roster)

Pool B
South Korea (The runner-up, also shit loads of top Korean league players)
Netherlands
Australia
Chinese Taipei

Pool C
Venezuela (Miguel Cabrera, Sandoval, Andrus, K-Rod, etc)
Puerto Rico (Beltran, Pagan, Molina Brothers, etc)
Dominican Republic (Cano, Reyes, Ramirez, Cruz, etc)
Spain

Pool D
USA (Still mediocre with Teixeira, Mauer, Braun, Stanton, Dickeys etc)
Mexico (Adrian Gonzalez leading)
Italy (Could be decent for a European team)
Canada (Votto, Lawrie, Morneau, Axford etc)

The tournament starts in the Far East first for Pool A and B in Japan and Taiwan respectively, then Pool C and D starts in the following week.

baseball is turrible.

no athleticism, no excitement, no skills.

hit ball with bat, run. hope your ball went far enough to get you to a base.

EVERYONE ELSE, stand still and see if the ball goes to you.

play ball.

Then I'm assuming you've earned a better career and you're making millions of dollars a year assuming you think baseball takes no skill?

yeah none of that took any athleticism at all... let alone throwing a ball at 100mph making it drop and curve all different types of directions. or hitting a ball that it traveling 100mph over 400'. just because your father never taught you how to throw or catch like a man doesn't mean baseball takes no athleticism or skill.

I just hope that none of the Jays playing in this get hurt. I honestly don't give one damn as to who wins this. Bring on the regular season.

Yeah, that is the worst part for Jays fans. Jays players are mostly with Dominican Republic, which is in a very competitive pool. Things might go sour if they had to push harder to qualify for the next round.

I tried to look into tickets for the finals in SF, but they were a tad too expensive for me. Ken Rosenthal had a column about the WBC today addressing some of the detractors, I believe he said the finals were the 6th most watched television event worldwide during the last tournament.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) Andruw Jones got two hits and Diegomar Markwell and Orlando Yntema combined for seven innings of four-hit ball to help the Netherlands upset South Korea 5-0 in the World Baseball Classic on Saturday.

Roger Bernadina drove in two runs and Dutch shortstop Andrelton Simmons went 3-for-5, including two doubles.

Host Taiwan beat Australia 4-1 in the other Group B game earlier Saturday. The Netherlands and Taiwan face off Sunday. The top two teams in the group advance to the WBC's next round later this month in Tokyo.

Chien-Ming Wang pitched well last night, but again he pitched against Australia. I think he will find the way back to MLB again.

Might go to a few games out in Scottsdale or Chase field, not sure yet.

Not a big baseball fan, but if the tickets are cheap, why the hell not.

(AP) Japan 5, Brazil 3: The ultimate underdogs from Brazil nearly stunned the world again on Saturday morning.

Already a surprise qualifier in the tournament after knocking off Panama in November, Brazil took a 3-2 lead over two-time defending champions Japan into the eighth inning before the overwhelming favorites righted the ship with a three-run rally.
