Last time I checked, the month of November and December also count in the minds of the MVP-voters. So no, TMac is not a MVP-candidate right now.

Based on the month of January, T-Mac is the MVP of the league. Open and shut case. T-Mac's month should get the same recognition as what players like Nash, Dirk and to a lesser extent, Bryant have been doing for the whole season.

Granted, when you look at his numbers over the last 20 or so games... that's the timeframe we're noting... T-Mac's numbers aren't anything special in comparison to Dirk, Nash, nor Bryant's... but hey, playing well for about a quarter of the season is grounds for putting someone high of the MVP watch list...

You were fooled...

My thoughts on this thread.

1. Kobe Bryant is better than Tracy McGrady.

2. Kobe Bryant is no lower than #3 in the MVP race. Tracy McGrady is no higher #4.

3. The Rockets have a better team than the Lakers.

4. The Rockets have endured more overall injuries than the Lakers.

5. The Tracy McGrady playing MVP basketball now is not the Tracy McGrady from the start of the season AND the MVP voters WILL recognize this.

6. Yao Ming is a badass.

T-Mac is moving up the list as a candidate. He's not a top 5 candidate yet but, he is a candidate (he's in the top 10).

Nobody thought that the Rockets would be where they are without Yao. I remember many analysts saying that their season was pretty much over because, even when Yao came back, it would be too hard to make up games in the west.

Pretty much accurate...

Keep in mind that if T-Mac continues to play consistently, and any of the top three start slipping, he could easily move up. The Lakers have started to lose games and Nash is out, so Phoenix has a chance to show that they can play well without him. T-Mac could easily move ahead of Bryant and Nash if things work out in his favor.

Dirk
Nash
Kobe
Duncan
Bron
Wade
Garnett
Boozer
Arenas

Those are the 9 guys I currently put over TMac, in order. So I can give you top 10, with a chance to climb up the rankings. But is someone ranked at 10, or even 8 a real MVP candidate? IMO, the only legit candidates are Dirk, Nash, Kobe and Duncan.
That whole "Arenas for MVP" campaign is one of the more laughable things I've witnessed in a long time. What exactly is he doing? Jacking up shots, not hitting a lot of these (42% shooting?), and posting a funny blog on NBA.com. Not deserving of a MVP vote.

True.

However, I don't see the Suns or Mavs faultering down the stretch. They're just too good. He'll pass Kobe if anyone because of his team's record if anything. This is also assuming that Nash's injury won't keep him out for an extended period of time.

A good deal better than current T-mac? Actually based on stats and winning % the current (since late december) T-mac is the better player.

I agree... Though I do think that if the Suns play well in Nash's absence, that would only help T-Mac... and honestly, out of everyone Juvenile posted, T-Mac seems to be the one with the most upward momentum...

All those guys ahead of T-mac? No way..
IMO:

Nash: Yes.
Kobe: Maybe, but if T-mac keeps up the solid play: no.
Duncan: Maybe...
Bron: No, simply because of Cavs coaching.
Wade: No, a 23-25 record does not get you an MVP.
Garnett: No, again a 22-26 is not a MVP type record.
Boozer: No, awesome year for Boozer but no way he gets MVP.
Arenas: No, he's a chucker.
Dirk: Yes.

And like people are saying McGrady is moving up the list in a hurry. Is Mcgrady the TOP MVP candidate? No. At this rate would he be by the end of the year? Yes.

Tmac is at least as much of a candidate as Kobe. There just isn't any argument that I can see as to why Kobe should be over him.

Rockets have a better record.
Tracy has been leading them with Yao out to a great record.

To me it goes

Dirk
Nash

Duncan

TMac
Kobe

i think T-mac should be the top candidate because i think you have to look at a players surrounding cast. look at what nash and dirk have to work with compared to T-mac, and the rockets are STILL one of the top teams. i mean, who thought the rockets would have 31 wins at this point with yao not playing half the season ? look at the rockets roster for christs sake, it looks like sh!t on paper w/out yao. (bonzi has been hurt pretty much all year)

so if i had a vote it would definately go to T-mac...

if the rockets can get the 3rd seed tmac should get some serious mvp consideration. i dont think he would win bc i think dirk is going to get it this year.

I think it depends on two factors:

A. If Yao is out until March sometime

and

B. If the Rockets can stay one of the top teams with him out.

If these two things happen, I think voters will take a long look at Tmac. To be able to keep one of the top records in the league with the guy who many were picking to be MVP out for an extended time may be enough to trump Nash and Dirk's advantages.

no arguments?

Kobe in November: 26/5/5 on 49%
Kobe in December: 31/5/5 on 47%

TMac in November: 19/7/6 on 40%
TMac in December: 23/4/4 on 46%

don't fool yourself, Knoe

but what can I expect? typical *****...
