Yep, and the Godfather is not a great movie because it is cliche.
I watched all of those sitcoms as they were first aired, and cliche or not, they should be on every list of all time greats. Yes Dear, Family Matters, Boy Meets World and George Lopez may be funny shows, but they do not belong in the same thread.

I truly wasn't able to appreciate that show until about last year.

Oh yea, I like Becker and Spin City, too.

1.All in the Family-No contest here. Carroll Oconnor best sitcom actor ever.
2.I Love Lucy-Lucille Ball was so damn funny. she was the originator
3.M.A.S.H-great writing. great cast. laughing in the face of danger
4.**** van Dyke Show-you youngsters should check this one out.
5.Bob Newhart Show-The timing on this show was flawless

Other Favorites:

Honeymooners-had a short run but was ahead of it's time. actually had poor white people!
Sanford and Son-Redd Foxx carried the show but he was so damn good
Beverly Hillbillies-the black and white shows were classic
Married With Children-Al Bundy. what can I say?
Soap-great show and actors. absolutely hilarious.
Taxi-see Soap
Cheers-what a sitcom is supposed to be
Frasier-Kelsey Grammer showed he could carry his own show
Third Rock from the Sun-first couple of seasons were hilarious
Wings-The cab driver and plane mechanic were hilarious
Mary Tyler Moore Show- spun off several successful comedies
Good Times- JJ was the only actual comedian but the show fit the times so well
Martin-Marty Mart. Just the cracks on Pam and Jerome was worth it.
Three's Company-John Ritter classic comic actor
Maude-Bea Arthur was the shilznit
The Jeffersons-Weezy! Rich black folks living in Manhattan in the 70's? now that's funny.
Rhoda-Not the funniest show but I loved Valerie Harper
Phyllis-Very Underrated show
Barney Miller-Classic cop comedy. very funny.
King of Queens-I always laugh on this one
Seinfeld-to me funnier people than the actual show but funny nonetheless
Night Court-one of the whackiest and funniest
News Radio-great writing and Phil Hartman at his best.
