Default Are players allowed to take money from fans?

Lets say I'm a super rich OKC fan and I decides to donate $100 million to Durant and Westbrook. The real reason is so they will stay at OKC or even take lower salary but of course that's private.

The question is, are they allowed to take the money?

I think the players would have to report such a huge amount of sum. First of all for tax reasons.

Second of all, imagine if they just get someone, like the owner's family or friends to give them huge chunk of salary down low. Like the Nets owner could pay stars handsomely under the table, though giving them a minimum contract on the surface. This would destroy the NBA cap system, so I'm sure the NBA has some type of clause restricting it.

If this were possible, Lakers would have 2 teams.

Its the Pros so they can take whatever any fans gives them...HOWEVER, there cannot be any kind of contract stating they will follow through after receiving whatever it is they get.

It's only one very small step away from receiving money to lose games, so my guess it is forbidden.

Yeah, way too many issues for it to be legal. It basically makes the salary cap meaningless and opens the league up to point shaving and throwing games. I'd imagine that the league has something written in its rules about this.

They cannot make it illegal for anyone to take a donation, but I'm sure it can only be a kind of donation that has literally nothing to do with basketball. So for example I'm sure Westbrook can take a rich lady's money for his supposedly great looks, but he can't take the same (or any) amount of money 'for basketball reasons'.

The TWolves got penalized for under the table dealing with Joe Smith.

Money was not from a fan but I think it would undermine the CBA about salary cap and stuff.

That's the thing, there is no way to know the real reason of donations made. The rich lady can say she gave it not for basketball reason while in private they were discussing Westbrook agreeing to take less salary.

Besides, do they even need to declare donations?

Say hello to boosters and teams that have the richest fans can afford all-star teams. Imagine Donald Trump/Spike Lee going in halfsies of a team of example: (mj/shaq/kobe/pippen/ben wallace)

But then what happens when Westbrook takes $100M from the OKC lady and then signs for a max 5 year deal for the Lakers?

OKC lady can't sue b/c you can't have a legal contract to begin with. Anybody still gonna be making donations?
