Are there any cool places to go in your area as far as nature? Like a walking path with interesting scenery or something? It would probably make you look more creative and/or thoughtful than dinner or a movie.
Agree with Stro. If it's nice outside parks/lakes are a good place to go for a first date, at least to start or finish. I actually went out with a friend for the first time today and we went to the park (first 60 degree day in Cleveland this year) and walked along the hike trails some, walked by the water, sat down and chatted some then walked some more. All the time outside usually works up an appetite so it's nice to start at a park then head out to dinner after that for a nice meal and some drinks.
Definitely not movies. The first date is kinda like an interview, you guys should just talk and get to know each other. Sitting down at somewhere like Starbucks and just chatting isn't a bad idea.

dave and busters seem fun. arcades are playful. dont take her to a movie for first date, your just sitting there for hours not really talking or interacting.

The only place you ever need to go on a first date is a cool/chilled lounge bar. Somewhere you can sit and have a drink or two, you can hear each other speak, and if you like you can grab a bite to eat.
No formal sit down dinners, no movies.
Coffee is a good option.
I've also just bought a 6 pack of beer and gone and sat down on the beach/foreshore (whatever you've got in your town), always goes well.
