Default Is it bad for a team to be "hot" before the playoffs?

Let's say Miami somehow keeps winning games, and then loses the last 2-3 games on purpose.

When they go into the playoffs, will they be "burnt" out or still hot?

Winning too much can never be a bad thing. If anything they are playing very relaxed and not letting the hype affect their game.

They shouldn't try to lose on to purpose so as to relieve pressure for the playoffs. The NFL Colts did this when they were 14-0 and lost their edge, got bounced in the first round.

For an average team, maybe. For a historically talented and stacked team like Miami? No way.

They are too good at every facet of the game. Momentum isn't something they need to rely on because they could sit their stars the last 3 or 4 games of the season and they would pick it up right where they left off once the playoffs start.

The only thing that can stop this team at this point is injury.

I am amazed how the Heat are able to play any type of tempo and still win. That Memphis game was a thing of beauty, defensively speaking, and the difference was the star power of the Heat. Next they went into a scoring fest against the Kings and ran out with a 3OT victory. Today against the Raptors, they get outrebounded by 25 but blow them out.

If they win it all, I think they might get complacent NEXT year.

I could be wrong but championship teams usually play there best ball in Feb/March. Anything prior that could be getting hot to early. A potential example could be the 2013 Clippers

yes. the thing is, when a loss hits them in the playoffs, it will be like a surprise attack. They won't know how to adjust, absorb the shock. Their confidence will be knocked. If they can't get back the momentum, and let another game slide, their post-season will be in danger.

it's like when an old lion suddenly attacks a lion in its prime. it won't know how to react suddenly.

It really does not matter what Miami does, they are going to win it all this year.

They are too good and they know it. They are not superstitious, they're coming off a title. They know they are the best team this year, and they have no demons haunting them.

It's over. Doesn't matter what they do.

I do agree with above poster that if any team loses 2 games in a row in the playoffs, their postseason is in danger. ...?
