Default Pippen vs Lebron Comparison

Quote:
Do you remember the time that Michael retired? I watched Scottie Pippen when the Chicago Bulls weren't really good and Scottie led that team in every statistical category, and I just remembered that.
Reading this quote by Malone, it just reminds me so much of Lebron.

Forget about Magic or Jordan, isn't Pippen the closest player to Lebron? Do it all, defensive player, rebounds, etc.

Without Jordan, he averaged 22.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2.9 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game, while shooting 49.1% from the field and a career-best 32% from the 3-point line.

Lebron's D seems a little bit overrated to me. He's good at guarding the super athletic combo guards of today so it creates the illusion that he's better than he actually is in man-to-man defense. Guys with real inside/outside scoring skillsets like Kobe, Durant, Melo do fine scoring on him. Good defender, but not "elite" defending 1-4, and certainly a good margin worse than Pippen. His roaming/ help D is comparable, though.

Lebron's a much better scorer than Pippen. How much better? Pippen's best was 22ppg and only averaged 20+ for 4 seasons. Only one of those 4 seasons scoring 20+ with 50%+ shooting. Lebron averages 27.6 for his career and has shot well over 50% for the past 4 seasons. Lebron also slides into the 4 more naturally, since he's already built like one. They're evenly skilled in post scoring but Lebron is more effective.

Hmm, wow the only thing they really have in common is that they're both point forwards with good help d.

Penny Hardaway
Scottie Pippen
Oscar Robertson
Magic Johnson
Tracy McGrady
Grant Hill
Michael Jordan

Lebron is similar to all of those in one way or the other.... but Oscar, Grant Hill, Penny, Pippen and Magic are the closest in terms of gamestyle overall.

One guy who who never gets that Lebron comparison who i think was actually also similar to Lebron in a way is LARRY BIRD....

They had very similar mindsets, productions offensively and both dominated the offense that way.

Both very similar passers from the same position, both the greatest passing non-PGs ever according to me, both equally unselfish on the offense and both had passing/teamplay as priority over individual scoring...

Both very similar scorers production wise as they averaged about the same PPG & efficiency in that department, Bird was more of a shooter, Lebron more of a slasher, shooting wise the biggest difference is the FT%....

Both were great defenders, Lebron was better ofcourse, but this is mostly due to his athleticism i think, Bird would probably look similar with that athleticism.

Both great rebounders... Both triple double machines / all-round players / point-forwards....

Nobody thinks about that one, perhaps because of the racial difference and/or because he could shoot so well and Lebron is such an athlete.... but if you think about it they were also kindof similar...

they might have produced similarly but the way they went about them is very different. WHen people compare players I think they mostly focus on the way they played as opposed to statistical production.

Lebron is miles ahead of Pippen...Pippen never led the Bulls deep into the playoffs, i think 2nd round exits was his highest accolade leading them. Lebron was also a more impactful player, whereas Pippen (tho great) never made his presence a staple on the court as did Lebron.
