phone is good enough, especially since you can stuff so much in a SD card these days. I used to have a dedicated mp3, but man, along with the phone, wallet, keys, etc etc it was just too much to take around.
I have an Ipod Touch 32GB my girl gave me. I use it for music, when going to school in the morning and coming home. I can't use spotify unless I'm home, and when I'm home I don't really tune in to music much. I think it's handy, I use it for browsing, apps like Instagram or shit like that.

There's a third party program you can use besides iTunes to export the songs out of your Ipod Touch without syncing it and losing the songs. Google how to export songs on Ipod Touch, I've done it plenty of times. Safe.
Stopped buying a dedicated music player a few years back when I decided to invest in a nice smartphone. Enough space to keep the music I'm currently listening to, plenty of battery life and other apps like Pandora for music. Really no need to have another device.
