Default Will the Supreme Court strike down DOMA and Prop 8?

I thought it was a sure thing, 'til I heard yesterday's audio.

Hope so...and I think they will. It's one of those times in history where public opinion is shifting and the law is adjusting.

On another point, loving all the equality profile pictures on facebook.

Who are we to say you cannot marry who you want to spend the rest of your life with? It's a personal decision that involves you and one other very special person, no one else.

It's a ridiculous law.

This and marijuana baffle me constantly.

DOMA is another failure from Bill Clinton. When gay people needed him the most, he kicked them in the teeth.

He's a politician, a master one at that. People don't realize that ALL politicians do what's in their personal interest in the grand scheme of things.

Can't wait to see what Scalia has to say about this one. If he comes out against which he probably will he loses even more credibility with his bullsh*t "textualist" approach to constitutional interpretation.

Don't really care. I do support it, but this is a small fish to fry in the sea of America's problems.

Government and society has done enough to destroy marriage anyway, one has to wonder if there is any meaning or real purpose to it anymore.

You are naive if you think marriage is about love these days. Or family. It's more about money.

Yeah I feel the same way. Those guys sounded very out of touch. They made the Vatican look progressive.

I agree. Liberals need to change the argument. Marriage isn't a right. It's a privilege. And therefore cannot be discriminated or abridged to any citizen of the United States according to the 14th Amendment. Not allowing a woman to marry a woman because she herself is female is gender discrimination and is subsequently unconstitutional.

Marrying for love is still a fairly recent innovation, history-wise.

You're very jaded if you believe that to be true. That's sad.

More on point, I don't know how the SC can say that the federal government has the right to discriminate against people who are legally married under the laws of their state.

Personally, I see stories daily about domestic violence and child abuse. I believe I've seen one that involves a same-sex couple.

I know two gay couples that are raising children that their biological parents didn't want. One of them took in two siblings. They couldn't be more caring, loving parents. To me it's unconscionable that in my state (AZ) they cannot marry, and that others who are legally married can't enjoy the same benefits as my wife and I.

Love exists without marriage, it transcends marriage. Please tell me, what's so special about marriage that makes it necessary for love?

The government should get out of it completely and not offer benefits to some and not to other individuals. That would be true equality. Then the real marriages based on something meaningful would be left standing.

you ignorant of history brah

marriage for love is at an all time high in today's world.

historically marriage has been much more directly related to transference of wealth, property, and power.
