Saw an interesting idea by the economist Miles Kimball about federal direct lines of credit. It's basically just targeted stimulus that would potentially have a minimal impact on our debt. Offer direct lines of credit at an extremely low interest rate. If they do pay it back, then the govt gets its money back. If they don't pay it back, their credit score gets shredded and it was basically just a stimulus payment. Obviously it would have to be a short-term thing but it's a cool idea.

I think its from a blog post called "what Krugman got wrong about Italy" or something if anyone wants to check it out.

Yeah, I'm sure he did a better job explaining the terms and operations of the loans but I was just trying to get the general idea out there in my post. I doubt anyone would really be able to take advantage of that arbitrage opportunity with limits on the amount of the loan and who qualifies.
