Default An upside to Lakers NOT making the playoffs....

I can't see how Mike D'Antoni isn't booted out of town and they finally attempt to make huge roster changes. This current squad is old and the cohesion isn't there but when I see dude I see a coach that was in way over his head.

And no of course the blame doesn't fall solely on him but really the guy will not have a job in this NBA after two massive fails with NY and LA

There is no "massive roster change" in LA without dumping the Bean.

I wonder if Dwight would re-sign if they didn't make the Playoffs

I think he and the Lakers need to part ways. Its time for Kobe to have a new start or retire. The Lakers and Kobe have a stagnant relationship. However he is still selling tickets, so at least from a business perspective it might be more lucrative to keep him than to rebuild. They will get their chance in a few years, may as well ride that cash cow while they still can right?

Yes, obviously he has to go after a failure of this magnitude. Most humiliating and pathetic season in NBA history bar none. Pre-season runaway favorites to win the West. A team with Nash/Kobe/Gasol/Howard can't even make the playoffs.

I think he'll get the boot regardless with Phil replacing. By the way, couldn't Phil just basically coach for free since he's marrying into the ownership? What difference does it really make?

Jim Buss, who screwed over Phil in the first place to get D'Antoni. If I was Phil...I'd get the most lucrative deal possible and hold it over the head of Jim Buss for that stupid mistake. Phil has all the power here in his hands and I'm pretty sure he knows that.

Kobe will probably retire after next year. The problem is that the team blew their wad on the starting lineup and forgot to fill in the rest of the roster. Oh and they made the worst hiring for coach based on personnel.

I don't think anyone expects Howard to be the #1 de facto option on a championship team (hence the freed up cap space in '14).

It'd be nice if you guys stopped signing these one dimensional shooters that can't play defense or finish at the rim.

MDA will be back. Pau will be traded for a couple pieces. Lakers will give MDA a chance at a season with a training camp and hopefully healthy roster. They'll also let MDA bring in his coaches and not Mike Brown's

Only way I don't see MDA coming back is if Howard signing has an effect or Kobe tell's front office he's got to go

Problem is D'Antoni still has 3 years in his contract after this season, right?

Honestly I see Howard and Kobe not wanting to play for MDA.
