Agreed. Also any type of acoustic or classical music is fine. I'd like to see these guys live.

Really depends on the artist. Went to see Ice Cube couple of years ago it was pretty good imo. Best performance ive been to.

Also have been to Meth and red pretty good vibe/experience as well.

Wiz and Wayne something that i wouldnt want to see live.

Ice Cube still raps in between those kids movies that he does?

I don't necessarily disagree with the sentiments of the OP.

There are a lot of artists who can make fantastic records but who don't really have the musicianship and dedication to make great live show. I don't really expect much from a live show these days.

Classical music and Jazz are almost always amazing live, so that's the exception.

It was in 2008 to promote his album Raw Footage i think. Just saw he has another album coming out this year.

Raw Footage is a very nice, IMO the best rap album of 2008.

Still need to see a rock show one of these days. Missed out on BRMC, Tame Impala and a few other bands recently. Never listened to the genre until a few years ago. Gotta see drums and guitars live.

Rap probably does suck live but it all depends on who's performing and the size of the venue.

Seeing Nas at a small sardine-can type venue was unreal...he sounded exactly like on record and you could hear every lyric.

I also saw Kurupt and Tha Dogg pound in an even smaller place, up in Whistler...that was just as insane.

The Roots were probably the best because of the band...another small venue.

Stadium concerts blow.

Watching a live concert is nothing like actually being there. I've seen bands I like, and bands I've never even heard of before. I get pumped up for both, obviously better to jam along with music you know but there's something about live music that gets you hyped and wild that it doesn't even matter if you're familiar with the music or not. You just wanna go with the flow and have a great time.

Best way to start enjoying live music is to attend free concerts you regional radio station puts out. There's an alternative radio station in Southern Vermont(with Miller Lite's sponsorship) that usually puts free shows from recognized indie bands. I've only been to one of their free shows but had a blast because it was an all-day event. I was only familiar with one at the time but afterward became somewhat fan of two other acts that was there.

If it's got musical instruments playing live nothing beats a concert. If it's a recording of music made by a synthesizer and other electronic bs with the artist outrageously lip singing then it's gonna blow.

I recently saw Passion Pit, and when I looked at the setlist from their other shows, they pretty much played the same set list each night. A band like that you'd only see once.

Then there are bands like Pearl Jam who plays different sets of setlists each shows. They'll throw in a dozen or so popular songs but also have equal share of die-hard favorites and rarities. I don't care if their last three studio albums were trash, as long as they'll keep on putting great shows I'll always be a diehard fan.

If you can become a fan of bands like that, then you'll become a concert junkie like I have. If I was a millionaire, concerts would be the #1 reason why I went broke if I did.

Most old school hip-hop is pretty good live. Big Daddy Kane still give a great show.

I'm talking about current artist. I wouldn't go to A Big Sean show live if I got in free.

BRMC is a solid live show. I saw them about ten years ago, I barely remember it, but I think it was OK. Like at St. Andrews in Detroit maybe. I noticed they were on tour. Was thinking of driving down to see them at the 9:30 Club.

Very true. Most of the time I will only go see a show if the band/artist at least has some buzz about being a good live show. The only time I'll see a show on a whim now is if its a jazz show just because live jazz is really a place where good musicians can shine. There are only a few acts out there that I would go out of my way to see live and one is Christian Scott.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qXSUQ6B3CI
^I would kill to see that live

The only time I can really remember being floored by a live show is when my dad took me to see Springsteen 7 E Street when I was young.

a) I wonder how many concerts you have been to. Of groups with actual musicianship

b) you do have a point about the large festivals, particularly the ones with a broad musical footprint. A lot of those bands arent all that great live, everything is a hassle, etc. But, its still can be a great scene. In those cases, its really more about the experience than the actual music.
