how long do root canals take and is there a recovery time needed? i'm about to go on surgery for a 2nd impacted wisdom tooth and on the other side my dentist said i'd need a root canal, gonna travel in a month and i wanna have all the dental stuff done in case insurance don't cover root canals in the places i'm going to

Had mine done this morning...took about 2 hours for root canal and crown to be put in. Not sure if you need a crown, but for me they said the one they put in now is temporary and I have to come back in 3 weeks to get the permanent crown in.

Also, I drove back home and am feeling fine, so in my case there wasn't really any recovery time...

(waits for rufus for a legitimate response to this question)

well that's good to know. mine already has a filling from like 20 years ago..so i'd probably need a crown as well. did your insurance cover that?

i'm not sure what exactly insurance covered but the procedure was $2200 before insurance and ended up paying $800.

This is a typical root canal experience. Most teeth that have root canal therapy will need a crown to restore.
