It's not like LeBron doesn't take enough shots or play enough minutes to score 60+.
You're comparing averages for a comparison on single game output. It doesn't make sense do so. If you want to compare average scoring, then sure compare average field goal attempts, but if you're going to compare highest scoring games, you have to compare highest field goal attempt games. Compare averages with averages, and career highs with career highs.

And outside of the 05-06 and 06-07 seasons?

Why not look at 2008-10 (when he had a good team).

2007-08 = 8 games over 30 FGA
2008-09 = 11 games over 30 FGA
2009-10 = 8 games over 30 FGA

That is poor logic.

Neither Jordan or Kobe scored 60 by taking their average amount of shots per game of 19.6 and 22.9 shots per game. In the games they scored 60 they took a lot more than their average shots per game. Kobe averaged 37 shots per game in the games he scored 60. Jordan averaged 41 shots per game in his 60 point games. Lebron doesn't have variation like that. He will rarely leave his average shots per game by much. As was pointed out, Lebron has only had 36 shots in a game once.

End thread.

As for the FGA argument, of course it's valid. The more games you have high volume of FGA the more likely you are to have a big game. Using career FGA is a poor way of actually assessing this.

Best way I see is the amount of games either of them took a huge number of shots, I arbitrarily chose 30 FGA (feel free to choose any other number).

LeBron's attempted 30 FGs a total of 27 times, 18 of which were in his first 4 years in the league before he entered his prime.

Koeb's had 100 games of 30 FGA, 47 of which were between his 2006-2009 seasons, a 3 year span right in the middle of his prime.

Looking at this it's obvious why one has many more big scoring games than the other. Since the 2008 season LeBron has had 9 games of 30 FGA, Kobe has had 6 in one month alone multiple times.

Their shot attempts are incomparable going by single game output.

This is a very good post and is easiest way to shut the haters up

Most 50+ point games in playoff history...

JORDAN 8 times
Chamberlain 4 times
Iverson 3 times
West 2 times
Kobe and a boat-load of people did it once (V.Carter,R.Allen,Barkley etc)

Lebron we are waiting your highness.

Well those are the seasons he had most of his 60 point games right? Why does the quality of teammates matter when we're discussing individual points? Doesn't it make sense to look at the highest scoring seasons for that? Not to mention I included 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 in my 4 year span for Kobe. Hell, in the 3 seasons you mentioned alone, that's as many as LeBron has for his whole career.

I still remember that blow by against Pape Sow for a monster dunk, like he wasn't even there.

I remember Chuck and Leo (if that's who it was) all over Pape for playing LeBron tough and not shying away from the challenge. The things we take pride in as Raptors fans...

C'mon, we all know why you tried to subtly blur the lines between the 05-07 and 08-10 eras. It's the favorite sport of haters these days.

Kobe was unlucky that's his peak years were spent on a bad team, but he had "normal" FGA seasons before and after the 2005-07 era, and it didn't stop him from having 76 40+ games, 8 50+ games and 1 60 + game.

That's still a lot of attempts for having such a great front court... you just made Kobe look bad.

Default Re: Will Lebron ever score 60 pts in a game?

He could have, and still can, but I doubt someone as talented and respected as Lebron will have another opportunity in his career to be on a team so full of scrubs that 60 points will be required of him...

For the rest of his career, LBJ will always have decent F.A's flocking to his team

It could happen in the context of a freakish scenario i.e. losing 2nd and 3rd scorers to injury during playoffs and beasting in a double OT game... Otherwise I'd say highly unlikely.

What are you talking about blur lines between the eras? I said b/w 2006-2009 because I consider those his best 4 years in a row. Yeah Kobe had "normal" FGA attempt years compared to himself, but certainly not anyone currently in the league. You said it yourself in 2008-2009 he had 11 30 FGA+ games (last time he scored 60). LeBron has had less than that in the last 5 years combined (which is his prime). It's not a comparison between them when it comes to high shooting games, and especially during their prime periods, where it's 47-8 in favour of Kobe (in one year less than LeBron).

Yeah, thank god you had three 7 footers to clean up Kobe's cruelty to the rim.
