Default Detroit fans, tell us about......Jason Maxiell

Free Agency starts July 1st. So for the next 2 months, this will be an ongoing series to get to know some of the lesser sought after free agents. What better way to do that than to get that teams fans to comment....

So please tell us about the free agents strengths, weaknesses, intangibles, potential, injury history, possible contract demands, free agency ambitions, desire to stay with current team, likes, dislikes, pet peeves, and of course....sexual orientation.

So for the first thread of this 2 month series:

Detroit fans, tell us about.....Jason Maxiell!!!!

I personally loved Jason Maxiell. He never complained, never got caught up in the politics of the game, always seemed to give 100%, always seemed to accept whatever role he was given and would attempt to maximize that role, genuinely seemed to attempt to improve and develop, and dunked like an absolute monster.

On the flip side, my brother always hated Jason Maxiell because his actual skills were never completely great. He's an okay rebounder but not a great one. He's a mediocre shot blocker but not necessarily a good one (career high 1.3 in 24mpg last season). I think my brother just always expected Max to be something he's not whereas I accepted who he was and appreciated what he provided.

I'd agree that in terms of skills, he will never be outstanding, but I also don't think he's terrible. I think he'd be a solid energy guy off the bench (as he was during the good Pistons days). He even came into the '13 season with a new found mid-range jump shot, which he was hitting with great consistency for a while before coming back down to Earth a little bit.

I think it sounded like Maxiell likely wouldn't be returning to Detroit. Wherever he goes, I'm sure there'll be some fans like my brother who will curse him at some point this year when he fails to catch a pass at some point or something like that. But amongst the reasonable folk, I think any fan base would appreciate having a guy like that on their roster - just goes to work every day.

I like him. He'd be a perfect Knick.

If we don't resign K-Mart I'd look at Maxiell.

Lol you really think teams are gonna be throwing their money at Maxiell?

He's a role player on a bad team, vet min from a contender is what I see for him.

Money is tight. There are ALOT of free agents out there. Not sure who's going to give him that.

Money is not that tight. Lots of teams have decent cap space and will strike out on the "stars". Max is worth about 4-5 per year. He would be in any team's rotation. I am glad his stint in Detroit is over (it was ridiculous that Frank insisted on starting him over Drummond), but he is a solid and savvy bench big man. There was a reason he was a contributor on those contending pistons teams his first several years.

Teams love to overpay for mediocre quality big men. Don't be surprised when he demands more money than he's worth.

With so many teams with cap space, he'll get 5 million per season.
Could see him with Utah, Sacramento, Charlotte as a reserve big at full MLE.

Max is also 5 years older. And where Speights has some upside (early on was even showing splashes of greatness), Max has likely reached the pinnacle of his game.
