I probably wouldnt because as a good as I think Josh Smith is (I like his game).... He's an expensive role player. He can not shoot and I think him and Melo would bump heads in the paint.

Not to say the Knicks wouldnt...I think they would....I would too.

The trade exception doesnt mean much, the Knicks wouldnt use it as they are lining up everything for that 2015 free agent class.
So you think wait it out w chandler and Felton and Amare is better than changing them in for a team built around Carmelo? Just to wait for 2015? And don't you think chandler plays a huge part in that for New Orleans? Plus 6'rs are tanking and amare won't hurt that- he and Gordon have nothing but upside for the possibility of trading into other assets down the road if either or both pan out.

Carmelo, jr smith, shumpert, Bargnani is a good enough to win if you put another 4 with them other than Felton, chandler, amare it could work this time, not just "next time".

Not a chance- and I'm a guy who likes josh smith

I do think that shumpert is a great trade piece. You shod either a) believe shumpert is versatile enough to play either gaurd spot or b) you should definitely trade shumpert if you think he is a sg/sf

I said the Knicks probably WOULD do that deal, and so would I.

You think this team has deficiencies on blocks, rebounds, and defense now. That team would get massacred in the playoffs.

Going from chandler to hawes wouldn't be as huge of drop off in rebounding or defense as you think

I think in the playoffs the Knicks biggest deficiency is lack of balance and ability to do anything but ISo

Believing chandler is some sort of defending and rebounding stud is what the Knicks should trick another team into trading for, not so egging you should trick yourself into believing

Not even to mention how much better defensively the Knicks would be at gaurd

Knicks signed Cole Aldrich, non guaranteed deal, he gets to prove his worth in training camp.

I don't know but I know Chandler is worth far more in the trade market then he'll ever be on the court.

I know the drop off is a lot. You dont see or pay attention enough to the small things when he plays. He boxes out he does go after rebounds. He does try to help defend. He does try to protect the rim. He just gets caught in LIMBO too many times because the players around him wont watch his back or they have no intention of rebounding or defending. When your next best rebounder is JR Smith and I dont really count Melo because he mostly great at getting his own misses.

The lack of balance as you call it isnt from Chandler. Its because the other players are 1 trick ponies that cant do anything else.

Before anyone says Hibbert manhandled him well thats true. Hibbert proved to be better than what people realized. Also if Chandler is out the game their are no other options behind him. He cant be that all out kind of fella on this team.

With all due respect, it wasn't just Hibbert. Chandler sucked the entire playoffs both this year and last year. And the majority of Melo's rebounds in the playoffs were defensive rebounds. I'd give you the exact # breakdown but NBA.com changed their format

I have a love/hate with Chandler

His contract is suspect, but the Center position is pretty weak right now. Plenty of teams would have payed him that

I coulnd't agree more with this.

He has a pretty solid trade value but his performance in the last 2 playoffs was nothing short of horrible.
I guess that's what winning a title and a DPOY does to you. Even if you suck, people can still say "he's got a ring and won a DPOY,he must be worth something" or "he's a leader and does little things that help you win ".
