He'll be there as well, unless JR walks.

How could I be a fan or respect an organization that is getting blackmailed into rostering a no talent like this?

This is what you are saying knickcity

If having him on the summer league roster means we get JR at a discount...so be it. It's not like this team puts any effort into their summer league roster anyway. I'm almost sure, unless Shumpert decides to play, we'll have one of the worst summer league teams out there yet again.

Chris will be on the Knicks season roster.

Speaking of, I've yet to see anything that states we got JR at a discount.

What money did he reportedly pass up on?

Well reportedly, we're getting him at 2-3 mill less than the going rate for him. Either way, none of this means anything till about July 1st

Sorry its utterly ridiculous that JR can dictate such a move. I dont even see how no one else has an issue with this. JR isnt even that great of a player to do that. I am not talking about summer league no one cares I'm talking about the real season.

I hate JR Smith as a basketball player but if he really can and does make this happen for himself and his brother I'll respect his dedication to family.

He already has. He took a discount this year to play with us really. Love him or hate him, he's way underpaid. You figure, he made less than Jason Kidd and we basically were asking him to be our second option.

I want Wesley Johnson and JJ Redick + a 3rd big off the bench in the draft, Withey would do.

That would leave us with:

Felton/Prig/Kidd
Shumpert/JJ
Melo/Wesley/Cope
Amare/Kmart/Novak
Chandler/Withey/Camby

Add a combo guard for the min and we should be okay.
More than anything we need Amare to survive the season.

JJ reddick? For 3 mill a year? And nobody at all offering prigioni or copeland anything?

The salary cap rules will keep that from happening.

If withey ends up being the best big available at 24 the Knicks will need to go pg

Well if we let JR walk we'll have the mle to throw at JJ. We should be able to pick up Wes with the vet exception. Cope might get some offers but he can go. Prigioni won't get any offers, even if he does we can pick up a younger guard for the min to play the 3rd pg role.

Withey wont be a starter in this league but at close to 7' he'd be a great backup. He moves well for a guy his size and plays solid D. He's basically mozgov with a higher IQ.
You won't get a quality pg outside of the top 15

A. We would be stupid to let JR walk. His early bird rights allows us to sign him whereas we can't afford a player with his skillset otherwise. We also still get to keep our mini mid.

B. I disagree that you can't get a quality PG outside of 15. Trey Burke, Michael Carter Williams and CJ McCollum are the only PG's that seem to be a lock for the lottery. Isaiah Cannan, Pierre Jackson, Shane Larkin, Lorenzo Brown, Dennis Schroeder, Ray McCallum and Nate Wolters are all guys who could conceivably be solid pros. Myck Kabongo, Phil Pressey and BJ Young will also be available, although I'm not as high on those guys.

C. JJ Reddick will probably garner more than 3 million dollars on the open market. I don't want him either way. He's one dimensional and he's really not even that good of a 3 point shooter. He's only shot over 40% once in his career from 3. I personally would rather give the money to Mike Dunleavy Jr. I'd even trade Novak for him in some sort of a sign and trade deal. Novak is a Milwaukee kid. Maybe they'll go for it.

D. I would like the Wes Johnson signing for the right price. I think he's a versatile player. He has that "bust" label but let's be frank. #1 He was in Minnesota. Terribly run organization. #2 We don't need him to lay liek a top 5 pick.

I'd let JR walk even if that meant James White coming back and taking his minutes. He's nothing more than a distraction and never fails to disappoint. For every game that he gets hot, he has 5 that he shoots 4-15 on and gets lit up by some scrub because he overplays on D.
We need to give Shumpert those 4th quarter minutes and find someone who can be a threat from 3 for like 15-20 mins a game.

I'm not sold on Burke/MCW/McCollum being quality starters and Canaan/Jackson/Larkin are shot happy midgets that won't get much burn in the league. We can pick up Price/Pargo/Barea and get better production.
