Default 2007 Sprite Rising Star Slam Dunk Contest contestants confirmed

It will be Nate Robinson defending his crown (boring) against:

Dwight Howard (good)
Gerald Green (good)
Tyrus Thomas (boring)

http://www.nba.com/allstar2007/news/...nk_070205.html

Should be alright, won't stand out though IMO.

I don't think Dwight is going to be able to win it. He's got as good a vertical as any of those guys, but his size will take away from his scores.I think Gerald will take it.

Beat me to it, ignore my thread. This is good though

There are two rule changes for this yearís competition: Upon receiving the ball from the referee, players will have a two-minute time limit to complete their dunk. If a player hasnít completed a dunk when the two-minute clock expires, he will have two more attempts to do so. Also new this year is the use of television instant replay, at the discretion of the referee, for clarification of rules compliance.

Yeah but does anyone know why they went with Tyrus Thomas? This guy just seems like he'll be real boring, hopefully he suprises me.

Looks week with Green being the early favorite.

if those are the only 4 in the contest, it will be one of the weakest dunk contests in years.

Howard is a good player, but c'mon, he's a big. you're gonna get pretty much just a straight dunk. no high flyin' acrobatic stuff.

Nate Robinson. this is just a joke. it'll take him 2 minutes to actually get a dunk to go through the rim. He shouldn't have won last year.

Tyrus Thomas. same thing as Howard.

Gerald Green. you know Boston can't be happy about this. see the results of Tony Allen's dunk.

Gerald Green will win this year, but who cares. this dunk contest is going to suck. doubt i'll even watch it.

Other than Gerald Green, this is gonna be one of the worst dunk contests in nba history... It's funny how they get great dunkers as judges and then bring average dunkers to the contest.

I don't know what the specifics on James White are. Didn't Voshon Leonard defend his 3pt championship one yr when he hadn't played at all that season, or I think at most he played in one game and tore his achilles? James hasn't played any NBA minutes but is still a San Antonio Spur. I don't know if he wanted in and Pop didn't let him in, or if Stern/Stu Jackson made the decision or what. I'm going to go to the Spurs board and see if they know because he and Carney both needed to be in it

I'm guessing since he's not on an NBA roster he cant participate. If I'm not mistaken he was went down to the NBDL last i heard. If thats true i can see why he isnt in the dunk contest. I just think Pop should have called him up or did something so he could enter. But to counter my own point, what has James White done that Pop owes him anything?

Just would have been nice. I'm gonna check to see why Rodney didnt enter or wasnt selected.

But James was called back up earlier this month. That's why I was hoping he would be able to be in it then.

Quote:
White returns to big league: Rookie guard James White spent Sunday's game on the inactive list one day after the Spurs recalled him from the Developmental League.

This was the second time the Spurs have recalled White, who can be sent to Austin only once more this season. Barring injuries to other players, Popovich doesn't expect to play White anytime soon.

"I haven't even been able to get Eric Williams on the court, so James isn't going to go out there," Popovich said. "He's just here because we've got the five days off (Friday-Feb. 6) and we've some practice time, so it's a good opportunity for him to get into the system and see what we're doing, and we can get a closer look at him.

"Maybe toward the end of the year, if there are opportunities, we'll throw him out there and see what we have."
