Re: Discussion: Is this team doomed?
Its a nice list that was provided by SoCalMike on his forces against the lakers success.
So far I would like to rate the areas in which Jim Buss has made decisions in.
Coaching- I have to give Jimmy an D here because he's selected two questionable coaches, and I don't believe he should have fired Mike Brown in the time he did. Not to mention he passed up Rick Adelman who is an overall "complete" coach compared to Mike Brown at the time. I don't factor in that he passed up Phil Jackson because I believe Phil at the time was the wrong hire for this team. This is why I rank him a D and not an F. Although it is close. A D- perhaps.
Trades - I will give Jim a B+ over a series of moves that he approved. From Odom to a first rounder and a TE, which eventually turned into Nash. Nash may not have been the best he was last year, but he was definitely better than Odom. Jim has his eye on superstars and he knows that the team needs them to succeed. He let the team go out and get Dwight. He's letting people like Mitch do what they do best.
Free Agency - I will reserve judgement on this one because we have not yet seen how this team will make decisions when they finally have the cap space to go after top notch players next off-season.
I think we are all passing judgement too quickly just because we expect Jim to be exactly like his father. We may be overreacting as well. From what I have seen, we have the talent, but we just need him to select a better coach for us.
Aren't we at least happy that this team is trying to win championships still and not going cheap like other NBA owners?
