Nice to see Burnett being productive. Go Jays, AL East.

He is finally starting to earn the contract he recieved in the offseason. It's scary to think that the Blue Jays are 8 games above .500 at 42-34, and their pitching, besides Roy Halladay, has been way below what everyone expected. Josh Towers has been awful, and Gustavo Chacin has been injured. AJ Burnett has been injured, but all the young pitchers in the system have stepped up to pick up the slack, but if we can get our actual rotation pitching, and pitching well, with our offense, I honestly could see the postseason in Toronto. It would be nice to see the Blue Jays in the playoffs, after such a rough time for the franchise.

The pitching staff is going to have to hold up because the trade market is going to be VERY thin. Anyone who thinks big names like Zito and Schmidt will be available are kidding themselves.

The Jays are going to need production from Janssen and Taubenheim/McGowan/Downs/whoever gets a shot at the 4 and 5 spots.

Halladay, Burnett and Lilly are pitching great lately and the offense is coming back down to earth a bit and the Jays are still in the race which is a good sign.

The Blue Jays only need one pitcher, and it doesn't have to necessarily be a marquee talent. I would assume that the current rotation looks like:

Ace: Roy Halladay
2nd: AJ Burnett
3rd: Gustavo Chacin
4th: Ted Lilly
5th: Josh Towers

I don't think that Towers really deserves the #5 slot after his performances, which is where someone like Janssen would step in and take over. If the Jays are able to acquire a #3 or #4 talent at the trade deadline, then Towers could be put in AAA or used in the Bullpen. I don't really feel like we need anymore help in pitching, we just need our guys to go out and get the job done. From there, the offense should be able to provide the necessary runs, to get the wins.

Replace Towers with Janssen or Taubenheim and the Jays got themselves arguably the best rotation in all of Major League Baseball. When everyone is healthy it's going to be something else.

I dont think that is even close to the best rotation in the AL, let alone in the Majors... an intriguing name is Livan Hernandez... do it J.P...

Chacin should never be put over Lilly in any major league rotation. Chacin is about as overrated as you can get in the majors.

He pitches up in the zone, gives up a lot of hits, walks a lot of batters and doesn't strike out many... all that does not = long-term success at the major league level. I honestly don't see Chacin as more than a #5 starter on a good team... MAYBE at best a #4 guy.

Most people immediately point to the W-L and spout off things like "he knows how to win". Umm that's nice but how often does his offense bail him out of his bad starts?? Shouldn't "knowing how to win" also mean actually pitching well and giving your team the best chance to win??

He had a nice year last year (very flukey IMO though) but unless he magically develops some better command of his pitches or develops a true out pitch, some of the casual Blue Jays fans are in for a big dissapointment with him in the long run.

Janssen is peniciled in as the 5th starter next year IMO.

Towers can go die in a pit for making all the Jays fans think he can round out a solid rotation. He basically ruined our first 6th of the season.

Burnett pitched great last night.

Go Jays!

Towers got sent back to the miners again yesterday.

Good to see Burnett back and pitching good.

Going to be really tough to make the playoffs though

Sweet game by Burnett last night. We need another quality SP though otherwise were not gonna make the playoffs. Taubenheim and Towers won't cut it.

Don't need Taubenheim or Towers as a SP.
