Default Rings Aside, Who's better? Duncan or Malone?

Duncan and Malone are probably a couple of the greatest PF's ever. Duncan has the hardware and rings to prove that while Malone has his 2nd of all time scoring leader title (both have 2 MVPs, 14x All Star). Lettuce be real though, if Malone didn't have to play Jordan every time he was in the finals, he would probably have two or at least one ring before he retired. While I don't want to take away anything from Duncan, the past 4 championships the Spurs have coasted in the finals with the exception of the Pistons:

1999: Injured Knicks
2003: Nets
2005: Pistons (IMO, their most impressive chip.)
2007: Cavs (nuff said, got past the Suns cus they had suspended players)

Honorable mention: Charles Barkley

Default Re: Rings Aside, Who's better? Duncan or Malone?

Duncan was an excellent defender with good fundamentals his entire career. Malone was pretty bad defensively early in his career.

Duncan.

Malone was the better overall scorer, but Timmy is the better post scorer. Duncan has the edge very comfortably on the defensive end. Plus the intangibles go to the big fundamental as well.

Also with the exception of that missed tip, Duncan is seriously one of the most clutch bigs to ever play. Which is really rare from a big man. You could even trust his free throw shooting back in the day when he shot not so good from the line.

Malone is a classic choker.

Sorry, I don't think you can put rings aside when talking about this. Duncan led his team to 4 championships. He clearly is better than Malone.

Old man Duncan was a few seconds away from winning a ring against what some here call the most stacked team ever. If Pop hadn't inexplicably pulled him at the end of Game 6 there's a very high probability he would've grabbed the series-clinching rebound.

Take competition into account, Spurs had some really really easy matchups in the finals with the exception of the 05 Pistons.

Basically you are saying Karl Malone could have won the title in 2003?

I'll take defense over offense from a big. I also have Garnett definitely ahead of Malone.
