Default Isiah Thomas discusses the Knicks

Former Knicks president and coach Isiah Thomas said coach Mike Woodson’s team had “a great year’’ despite a second-round KO, and believes it will get better by using the Spurs’ blueprint of improving role players.

“I think they had a great year, won the Atlantic, got eliminated by what we know now is a much greater Indiana team than anyone gave credit to,’’ Thomas said on the AmericanAirlines Arena floor before the Heat’s 103-100 overtime win over the Spurs in Game 6 of the NBA Finals Tuesday night. “[Roy] Hibbert was the difference in the series. He became the best center in the East.’’

That doesn't mean the Knicks should do it again

He is wrong that you just improve role players- it's the top 6-8 in the roster that needs overhauled not the bottom 6-8.

If you bring back that same team it's showing you aren't trying to win.

Melo Tyson Shump Amare Felton Novak Camby are the one under contract.

The overhaul will be the role players, as none are guaranteed to come back.

Unless of course the three tradeable players get moved.

Damn you only see 3? I was Hoping you'd say 4 and believe Felton has value in a trade. I assume you have to see the 3 as Carmelo, shumpert, and chandler?

IT is right. You develop players bottom line. Danny Green, Kawhi Leanord, Tiago Splitter (cant get steven a pronunciation out of my head), Dejuan Blair, Gary Neal, Corey Joseph etc etc...

They developed that whole roster

And none of those guys make over 5 million dollars, so the notion that we can't make our team better with our cap space is foolish. is it harder, yes. Is it impossible? no@

You don't win championships with role players. We just saw that.

You dont win championships by buying a roster either. You develop your own players whether they are stars or role players.

You gotta have some form of both, which Miami does.

They certainly didn't buy their rings, they just acquired the best player in the game.

Miami has Wade hom is homegrown and Haslem who's been there it seems forever.

They also have Chalmers and like him or not, dude is a winner and has been for as long as he's dribbled a basketball, and always gives effort and he's guaranteed to step up when needed most.

Then there Norris Cole whom I 'd figure should be better, but he's there.

We can't blame anyone for where LeBron wanted to go. You really don't acquire superstars. They acquire you. That being said, the my disappointment with Glen Grunwald is his piss poor execution in acquiring role players.

He seriously put forth one of the laziest GM offseason plans and really had some people thinking it was a contending team. Then, the media had some people thinking the ONLY reason this team wasn't the ones playing San Antonio is because of Carmelo Anthony lol Let's take a look of what our supporting cast was composed of:

35 year old rookie PG playing SG, yet is reluctant to shoot.
40 year old PG playing SG, yet is reluctant to shoot.
39 year old Center who's never shown the ability to stay healthy.
The oldest player in the league
38 year old PF who was out of the league for 2 years
30 year old PF who can't stay healthy for more than 15 games at a time
Talented, promising 2nd year player coming off an ACL tear
Erratic backup SG who's great when he's hot and a liability when he's not
30 year old center who's production routinely declines in the post season.
30 year old guy who really has no position and is only good for open 3's
30 year old guy who is only known for overseas dunk contest
29 year old rookie who can be a spark off the bench but also disappears
35 year old PF off the street
28 year old middle of the road but solid PG

THAT IS A CONTENDER?

I think not

Cmon man. The Heat CLEARLY bought their roster. Sorry it doesn't match up with your theory but it doesn't change the fact. They didn't JUST acquire the best player in the league. They also acquired an allstar PF and the best shooter in the league...not to mention a bunch of other snipers to put around the perimeter. I know we're not going to sit here and say Mario Chalmers and Udonis Haslem are more significant to their team than Bosh and Allen.

ClutchOver900's pic explains it all.
