Default ESPN's Jeff Goodman: If Rondo is the new Celtics leader, they're in major trouble

Goodman has followed Rondo's career since he was at Oak Hill Academy and been in touch with all of his past coaches.

Here's what he had to say about Rondo:

"He's a loner, he challenges authority, he's kind of a downer, he's not a positive guy. Every time you walked into the locker room it looked like players didn't want to be around with him or converse with him"

"The only person he's been able to establish a good relationship with was Kendrick Perkins. That was it."

"People want to play with Chris Paul, they don't want to play with Rajon Rondo"

Listen here:

Thoughts? Do you think Rondo can change his perception around the league?

To think that he quit on the Celtics last season when they needed him the most, you do not want a leader like that.

whos this fool? chasing some media attention?
Explain why all his team mates last season raved about how rondo is actually the heart of the team, organizes all the team events, travels during the season to watch players in the d league and is the first person to welcome and help out any rookies....
According to his actual team mates he's the most supportive player on their team...
He just does't like the media attention

Gimme Jackie Mac over this dick anyday.

http://espn.go.com/boston/nba/story/...celtics-leader

Quote:
Avery Bradley said it was Rondo, not the seasoned veterans, who checked on him regularly during his rookie season to make sure he was eating right, had the transportation he needed or had someone to talk to when he was feeling lonely or overwhelmed.

Bradley was devastated when he sent to the NBA Developmental League in January 2011. "I felt like it was a punishment almost," he said.

It was Rondo who stopped by Bradley's apartment and stressed the move was a chance for him to play and improve, and Rondo who made arrangements to watch Bradley play in Maine before a last-minute change to a Celtics practice scuttled the plans.

Quote:
"He is the most underappreciated leader in this league," Dooling declared. "Do you know how many times we were at the Rondo family home [last season]? We were there all the time, bonding, building team chemistry.

"Honestly, our veterans didn't do a very good job of supporting him in his [leadership] role."

Quote:
"He's such an incredible teammate," Daniels said. "And he gets such a bad rap."

Quote:
"It's time for people to recognize how much Rondo means, not only to this great franchise, but to this great sports town," Dooling said. "It's time they got to know the Rajon Rondo we've all been embracing for some time now."

All that said: we aren't going anywhere with a Rondo/Green team.

All you motherfückers are going the eat your words next year when Rondo returns. He is one of the best players in the league. He'll have a fresh team of young guys to run with and they will kick some major ass.

I believe in my team, every year.

That's cute, but Rondo is not close to being one of the best players in the league, sorry.

Send Rondo and Wallace to Atlanta for Jeff Teague and draft picks.
The Celtics clear out two big contracts for a free agent push next summer and get some picks to help rebuild.
The Hawks get Rondo and Wallace to surround Smith and Horford.

Because tearing an ACL and playing through it anyway for a brief spell = a quitter. Run full speed into a wall, you troll.

I pay no mind to the feeble words of some nameless ESPN hack. Jackie's article and interviews with his actual teammates are all the evidence I need. Rondo ain't perfect and he's got a lot to learn still...but I'm not quitting on him yet.

So let's say the article is 100% correct, Rondo is a terrible leader. That means we go from watching a 30-win team to a 20-win team? I fail to see how this is going to be the problem.

What I expect is that Ainge and the new coach give Rondo a chance to show he can be the leader on and off the court. There's no one else I can see as really being the captain. And if it doesn't work out, trade him.
