But if we keep Dwight I would love to get Rudy Gay or Granger....Brandon Rush....Barnes....Kyle Irving (But he is a RF) same goes with John Wall.

If we do not keep Dwight...

Maybe Cousins? Go after Zach Randolph (Player Option)

We will get some good help in 2014.

We could look like this...

PG Nash or Irving
SG Kobe
SF Granger or Gay
PF Gasol or Randolph
C Howard or Cousins

We will see.

Default Re: Who can the Lakers get in 2014 FA????

Many of the guys you bolded will be in their 30s... Some of those will be in their mid-30's. I would pretty much consider crossing those off. Lakers typically don't go after older guys to build around.

As for the younger guys you bolded (Wall, Irving, George, etc).. I really can't see Lakers being able to sign most of the younger guys since they're pretty much locked up with their current teams being able to offer 5th years and building around them. Kobe will still want at the very least 15 shots a game so Lakers would be limited in turning the team over right away.

It also depends on whether Dwight stays or not. I think we have to wait until this weekend when Dwight makes his final decision before we look forward to next summer. This will be VERY important in how much open money Lakers will have and what Lakers will have to offer as the biggest reason for coming to LA..

Paul George, FTW. LA native, Lakers fan, wants to play here, idolizes Kobe and follows his regimen, has a supreme work ethic, and is only going to get better next season. In fact, I'd even go as far as to call this a lock for '14. Paul George will be a Laker. George is a future superstar in this league, either way, but give him a couple of seasons under Kobe to learn some things, and we could be looking at the baby Mamba.

Ok...no Dwight.

I see a complete rebuild. Maybe we should tank the season and get a top pick? Out of all the guys on FA we can get Granger.

Assuming Kobe, Gasol and Jordan Hill reup on cheaper deals, I would like Paul George.

Nash/young athletic PG
Kobe/Ariza
George/World Peace
Hill/Marion
Gasol/young athletic C

Blend of youth in Paul George and Jordan Hill and veterans in Nash/Kobe/Gasol.

I would love for any of the likes of Paul George or Irving or really anyone of that caliber obviously however I don't think it will be very easy, I think getting George or Irving will be very unlikely simply due to them being restricted free agents although not impossible I doubt it will be easy, they would have to desperately want to leave and the management decide they are better off letting them go (Gordon and NOH or Batum with the Wolves I think it was come to mind, both to memory having their offers matched despite them both requesting the offers to preferably not be matched, although happy to be corrected if that is incorrect), I think the 2015 free agent class at this stage could be potentially good when a number of contracts are up that include Rondo, Aldridge (may want out of Portland at this stage if things don't improve although it will be two years away), Kevin Love, Gordon, Lopez, although it isn't as deep star wise as 2014 I think it has more likely options for people to go to the Lakers, I see more incentive for the likes of Love who is from LA or Aldridge disappointed in Portland at this stage arriving in 2015 than the likes of LeBron coming in 2014.

Paul George would be amazing, but I am really hoping for Kyrie Irving here. Hes got that Kobe swagger that no one else has in the league.

No offense but do any of you guys pay attention to the NBA? We aren't getting Paul George, Irving or John Wall. There's no chance any of these guys will hit free agency. Lakers should target a PF and a SF position. Lebron is the obvious number 1 target, but if he doesn't come I'd like to see us go after Carmelo and Chris Bosh, sign a defensive PG and C in Bledsoe and Gortat and have Kobe and Gasol take paycuts and bring Gasol off the bench as the first big. Sign some shooters and athletes and this team would beast.

Fcuk Lebron. I don't want another Dwight Howard on my team.

Well considering he's the best player in the league and would actually be signing in LA I don't really know how it would be a bad thing. Yes his personality is irritating and he lacks a killer instinct, but he's the best chance to win multiple titles.

That would be an interesting scenario , do you see Bosh and Carmelo actually leaving where they currently are? Bosh may feel unappreciated in Miami and being a 3rd option but I think he'd be happy while they are winning (past 2014 though they may not still be winning who knows, LeBron may leave although I think if he left for anywhere it'd be back to Cleveland, give them a good marketing campaign "Return of the King" ), but if LeBron re-signs I think Bosh will just stay there if Wade starts to decline or if his injuries continue Bosh will be more of the second option. What do you think the chances or likelihood of Carmelo leaving New York are/do you see him and Kobe assuming Kobe comes back for another year or two being able to play with each other rather than wanting to kill each other lol?

It's a dicey scenario considering Bosh, but you have to remember NBA players aren't always about championships, sometimes they want a change of scenery or different opportunities. If the Heat win the championship next year I say there's no chance that Bosh or Lebron leave. If they lose next year, especially before even making the finals than Lebron is gone for sure considering he's a front runner. If Lebron leaves, Bosh is going to bolt and LA could be a good landing spot. Carmelo is king of New York right now, but it all depends how things start looking with the Knicks, he's less likely to leave since the Knicks will have cap space themselves in a couple seasons, but he's already shown a strong interest in playing in LA. Kobe and Carmelo have a good relationship and they've also successfully played on Olympic teams which are loaded with talent. I have no reason to believe they wouldn't coexist and that Kobe isn't willing to give Melo the keys to the team provided that Melo proves himself.

The important thing about this is that the Lakers need to be an attractive destination for free agents. This is why I'm against the whole tanking idea. If the Lakers tank, they may end up with a number 1 pick but they'll be seen as playing with old Kobe and a rebuilding team(Dallas for example). This is why I'm more in favour of making a playoff push so they'll be viewed more favourably by potential free agents. Sign some young free agents to cheap deals so they can show case their talents and at best make a playoff push, at worse they'll build their value and get traded for picks. Otherwise if they're just going to tank anyways then trade Gasol, Nash and Kobe(pretty much impossible due to his contract) and be prepared for a full rebuild.

THIS

2014 draft is LeBron or bust actually. All other players are restricted (The Kyle's, George, and Wall's). 2015 is the BIG year with Love, Rondo, Hibbert, and LaMarcus. If I were in the front office I would be aiming for this RIGHT NOW.

Lakers need to be smart with their cap next season. Maybe sign one years deals or sign Kobe and Gasol to low paid $$$ in 2015. I hope they are cultivating a plan as we speak. But this means we will have 2 seasons coming up of sub par b-ball.

We shall see.

I disagree. Even if they don't land Lebron they can still sign some difference makers, gamble on some young prospects or take salary in a trade like Utah did and get draft picks in the process. They need to make a significant signing in 2014 and possibly leave space for one max free agent in 2015.
