Am I missing something here?

Anime = Cartoons

They are the same.

Manga vs Anime is a better debate.

I prefer Anime.

cartoons, easily. anime is too one dimensional in the cultural sense. you may get a different style of art, or you get the occasional original stories like Mushishi, Speed Grapher, Kinos Journey, or Shigurui, but for the most part all anime is the same ol' thing. with cartoons you get a much greater variety, from the adult swim stuff, to old school 90s toons like x-men, batman tas, spider-man, hey arnold, beavis/butthead, then you get your courage the cowardly dog, dexter lab, filmore, recess....just so much.

some cartoons make great anime; the batman anime was dope, the x-men/ironman animes were awful. why? because they left out all the cultural things that make those things great and let it become the same thing every anime is; japanese people pretending to be white dealing with supernatural shit.

Yeah bro it was too long

Both are animations.

Japanese style are better to me.

Some of the older U.S stuff like X-men and so forth was good but stuff have changed so much from the 90s.

People consider Dbz a cartoon but it's an anime. U.S always get stuff late

Hmm. I enjoy watching anime more than cartoons. The art style is appealing, and story can get really cool. Then again I grew up watching more anime than cartoons, so...

watch robotech from the 80's and then compare that to anything else from that era in the US. nothing even comes close.

Cartoons. Like Immortal said, cartoons can cover so much different ground.

From the old school

Looney Tunes
Scooby Doo
Tom and Jerry
Flintstones
Jetsons
Old School Disney

To the 80s/90s Miracle Era
Ninja Turtles
Transformers
Smurfs
Garfield
Ducktales
TaleSpin
Tiny Toon Adventures
Animaniacs
Doug
Rocko's Modern Life
Rugrats
Hey Arnold
X-Men
Batman Animated Series
Ren and Stimpy
Recess
Pepper Ann

To the 2000s
Dexter's Laboratory
Powerpuff Girls
Johnny Bravo
Spongebob Squarepants
Fairly odd Parents
Courage the Cowardly Dog
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
Flapjack
Adventure Time
Avatar the Last Airbender

To adult cartoons
Simpsons
Family Guy
South Park
Beavis and Butthead
King of the Hill
Futurama

And that's leaving out hundreds of quality ones. There you got juvenile humor, more adult humor, action, deep plots, no plots, dramas, educational ones, controversial ones, timeless ones. Just really diverse. Show me a list of Anime's that can compare to that (and no that doesn't just mean show me a list of 40 Anime's you can name. But a list that can actually compare to those in impact/quality/timelessness). Anime is a segment of cartoons, but it can't compete with the full genre

Anime library is large enough to fill all those categories plus some others that Western culture doesn't have.

exactly. just because someone doesn't know something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I believe anime has a much bigger library with a much high quality at the top end. I don't really think its a comparison.
