Default Nicolas Batum vs Luol Deng

I thought it was an interesting comparison because they play the same position and have pretty similar stats all around (though Deng's an All-Star)...

This season Batum, in 39 mpg, scored 14.3 points on 42/37/85 shooting, and he also grabbed 5.6 rebounds, dished out 5 assists, and had 1 steal and 1 block per game. He also had 2.6 turnovers per game.

Deng, on the other hand, in 39 mpg, scored 16.5 points on 43/32/82 shooting, and he grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, and had 1 steal (and 0.4 blocks) per game. He had 2 turnovers per game.

Who would you rather have on your team? Batum is 24 and Deng is 28.

Note that both Deng and Batum had injured wrists, and Batum was averaging 17/6/4 before his injury, and 11.6/5.4/5.6 after it. Couldn't find Deng's pre-injury stats.

Batum easily, he is younger and so versatile he is probably a 1 round pick in any fantasy league. However, if TrailBlazers continue to improve their roster his play will advance into winning them games for sure.
He improved vastly last year and many doubt him for his statpadding, but he is a great defender in my opinion, it was just his team that couldn't win last year because of their bench.
If he'll be injury free, he'll be twice the player Deng will be.

I would take Deng if I wanted to win today, Batum if I wanted to build and win in a year or two.

Deng is a much better player right now, especially in terms of bball IQ and awareness, but Batum is on an entire different tier in terms of athleticism and is still only starting to scratch the surface of his potential. I would also be worried about Dengs health down the road considering he almost always ranks #1 in the NBA in minutes played, thats a lot of milage.

Batum's wrist was messed up all year too. I like both players. They both get overrated like crazy. I give Batum the edge because he's younger.

feels like batum should be able to shoot 40% from 3 pretty easily. he such a natural looking shooter, such a smooth fluid shooting motion.

He was at 39% last year. Maybe the wrist injury messed him up a little.

I'd take Batum...but I do think they'd be fine playing next to each other.

Deng is extremely underrated, especially by Bulls fans. Just because he can't create fancy stepback fadeaway jumpers for himself, doesn't mean he isn't a hell of a player.

I would take Batum right now, I think he's a bit more talented and imo Deng due to all the min's he's played and playing for Great Britain his body is going to deteriorate very soon .
