Default Identity

Miami's bench was built with a purpose. They have an identity. They know how they want to play, and every move they make is centered around that. So no, their bench players individually aren't great, but for what they are asked to do, they are perfect. They're built around fiesty defense, the Big 3's scoring prowess and shooters that will make you pay if you try to help off of them. Every single role player does one or more of those things except for Birdman who was clearly brought in because they had virtually big man presence.

Allen- deadly from 3's
Chalmers- solid from 3
Battier- solid defender. solid from 3
Miller- deadly from 3 when hot
Haslem hit's mid range J's.

Indiana's entire team is built off toughness and physicality. I can't think of any player that's soft on Indiana, if Roy Hibbert is playing like he should. All the way down to their bench:

Hansbrough
Pendergraph
Mahinmi
Augustin

In Chicago, we all know, if you don't play defense, you aren't seeing the court. Period. That entire teams' toughness and tenacity is incredibly impressive. I don't even need to go through their roster.

What's the Knicks indentity? We hit a bunch of 3's last year, but we really only had one really good 3 point shooter. We played pretty decent defense, but we really only have one big time defender (and I'm NOT referring to Chandler ). We put up a lot of points at times, but we really only have a few guys who can even create their own shot (and one is ALWAYS hurt). It's time to establish an identity and build our team around that. I don't know if it's Woody not speaking up enough or Grunwald not listening enough but there's a very strange hodgepodge of players on this team.

Default Re: Identity

To me it seems like they finally have decided that the identity is a team built around Carmelo. Acquiring Bargnani was the very first step in building around Carmelo. If they can figure out how to get a pg that can shoot it will show that the team is being build around the unique "power 3"

Last year by default (by having a mis matched roster) the team and its rotations were built around Felton and chandler.

Default Re: Identity

last year this team identity was a streaky shooting team.
this year its incomplete because the roster hasnt been filled yet.

If Jr resigns its going to be another year of volume inefficient scoring from Melo, Jr, Bargs with no rebounds and not so great defense.

Default Re: Identity

The teams identity is iso-chuck and duck and only play defense when behind in scoring in the 4th quarter.

The Bagnani trades cements this teams wants more offense.

The draft signified the team wants more offense.

resigning JR is for more offense.

I'm waiting for one more to prove this team care about what got them knocked out....defense and rebounding.

Side note....the bench doesnt determine an identity...the starters do.

To me, whoever plays on the court regularly make up the teams identity. We don't seem to have a common denominator from the top all the way down to the bottom. Starters or bench.

Wouldn't that be the starters + JR?

It means exactly what I said lol. Furthermore, do you realize damn near everyone EXCEPT JR has started lol? When I though about it, it blew my mind. No player on the team can really say they didn't get burn this year except for guys we signed right before the playoffs lol.

And that's my issue with Grunwald. He knows the health of our team, so why play around and make silly roster moves like signing 6 players over 35?

Thats probably all he could get.

NY isn't as attractive as people think, if you're making min money in NY you're not as set as in other places.

but I cant continue to blame the bench when the starters arent as good.

There are players that are just trying to get on a team and show they can compete with the best. Im not buying that was the best we could get. Especially when guys like Jason Kidd was made offers before the moratorium period was over. We WANTED these guys. They weren't forced upon us. Proof of that is the fact that we wanted these guys back this year as well. As if we didn't learn our lesson. I just don't think Grunwald is grasping the concept that we've spent 100 mill on Amare and he'll never be remotely what we paid for again. Therefore, we can't afford to waste roster spots and assets.

I am telling you no one wants to play here. Of the big market teams this is probably the worst or near the worst in attracting players and front office personnel. You have to over pay for everyone to get here.

Pretty much the sum of it.

At least LA offers Hollywood and warm weather.

What good role players are gonna come play in the cold, watch their checks get ate up in taxes, then take brunt of a loss while not being allowed to contribute?

Even Chi and Boston has issues getting good ones, but not nearly bad as NY.

Yall believe that BS if you want. We have historically had terrible GM's. Period. Stop making excuses for them. It's one thing if we're talking superstars. It's another thing if we're talking role players. I don't see us making the effort. The moratorium period isn't even over and we've blown our mini mid already. So let's stop acting like we've done everything we can to sign guys. Glen Grunwald is doing a lazy job. Period. If it were up to him, we would have brought back he same roster we had last year.

And the Knicks play as many people on the roster as any team in the league. Damn near every player started on the team except JR.
