Default how'd all you guys find your calling in life?

curious.

what were the thought processes? how'd it click? at what age did you realize this was your lifelong mission?

etc. etc.

JMT's campaign to aware others hath inspired me.
Just been chilling at work aimlessly and getting my sh!t done half-assed and see these fathers and moms who have children and they fight/work with a tenacity and passion.

Well, God. I believe we're all called to serve God no matter what, therefore I am serving a 2 year mission in Ecuador in less than a month.

I didn't realize there were people on ISH with families at home and jobs they love which consume them.

I'm not anywhere near this site unless I have neither, myself.

JMT's campaign? is there a link?

my calling found me, although it keeps getting refined / adjusted as necessary. i do not know where it leads, which i take to be a very good sign.

the thought processes were many, but understanding why i am the way that i am, both as an individual and as an ordinary member of the species, seemed to be the master key for me. i'm well over 30 and this took a long time, fer shurr.

meh we all just exist until we die and then nothing we've done really matters anyway. We're just killing time until the end.

I'm not trying to bash you or your beliefs or anything. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but if you don't mind me asking, how did God help you find your calling? What did he/she/it do? And what makes you think every person alive is meant to serve God?

I'll never do my "true calling" as a career, which is creative arts/design, for a number of reasons including money, reputation, structure/lifestyle, missed opportunities, being disenfranchised at times, and not being able to incorporate other parts of my personality into my work as I am able to do in other fields. I realize that all of these factors are often dismissed and even scoffed at in typical "what do you want to be in life" conversations due to the "you were born to do this/follow your heart" card trumping everything.

I feel like I'll be more successful overall by continuing to marginalize my greatest strength, creativity, into a weapon that I can choose to take into battle in all aspects of my life, instead of letting it consume me to the point where that's all I am/know how to do. Due to this conscious effort, I am neither empty/dissatisfied nor imbalanced. I am simultaneously expressing myself and following the herd(society's benchmarks). I realize that I will not become the Michael Jordan of anything due to this, but I will also not die a Pablo Picasso.

I don't think finding your "calling in life" is a realistic goal. I mean, everyone wishes they could earn a living doing what they love to do, but the basic foundation of society wouldn't allow for that; the world needs ditch diggers too.

I always wanted to be a basketball player or a rapper, and I wasn't good enough at either to make a decent living. Now I work in Real Estate. I enjoy my work for the most part, I'm good at it, and it allows me to do things that I love.

How does having a family or job effect your desire to post on a public forum? I don't tend to share my personal life here, but I enjoy discussing basketball and off-topic stuff from time to time. I'm also a hyper-active night owl with a little OCD thrown in. I don't go to sleep until around 3am, and I'm up at 8am every day. I usually go about 3 weeks then have a major crash where I sleep all day.

Anyways, I've actually found that you can have much better discussion about specific topics on forums than you can with family/friends/people. I only have a couple friends (literally two) that I'll even bother discussing basketball with, because I just steamroll everyone else with my facts and opinions. You think some of the shit people say about basketball on ISH is stupid (and it is)? Try talking serious bball with casual sports fans. I usually get about 3 minutes into the conversation before they say something so dumb I just change the topic rather than waste my time trying to educate them.

Without going into specifics (quite a bit for any religious topic), I've heard about it, read about it, prayed about it, and it all feels like the the right thing to me, I feel the Holy Ghost has bore witness to me about it. As to why I believe we all are called, well I think it's not a stretch to think we're all supposed to help eachother out. "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." -Mosiah 2:17. Serving god doesn't mean going and just preaching repentance or damnation, it's all about helping your fellow man.

There was a guy in my dental school class that said God told him to go to dental school. I asked him how God told him and he said He sent him a sign. Me: "What sort of sign?"
Classmate: "I got accepted."
Me: "Well shit I guess God told me to go to dental school too."

If you find yourself trying to do something over and over, that's your calling whether you succeed at it or not. Success is dependent on other things.

I taught elementary PE this past school year and had an absolute blast doing it. Me getting the job was total dumb luck. Just happened to know a few of the right people. I've never had more fun with a job, nor felt more personal fulfillment. It was a great feeling seeing my students improve their skills and learn the value of teamwork, cooperation, etc. Unfortunately, budget cuts removed my position, and I'm not seeing many other openings, so it kinda feels like the next thing I do will be a temporary step back. I'm 31 years old and it took me a very long time to find this calling. The pay sucks, but most days, I looked forward to going to work, and had fun doing so.
