People need to stop over-rating his acting ability because he's dead. He was an above-average actor for leading men in Hollywood. As someone who's actually seen EVERY Ledger movie, DK and Two Hands was the only ones where he showed the ability to contort his facial muscles.
Look impartially at the material he was presented with for the Joker, it's not like he didn't have a great character to work with.
Honestly, the script for TDK was not impressive at all. The performances and directing made that movie.
And I felt Ledger was terrific in Brokeback Mountain. His roles in all of his films all felt so distinct from each other. He wasn't just "above average." He was a genuinely terrific actor.
