He's probably addicted to something. This goes beyond not knowing better, to get a DUI while appealing a one-year suspension you have to have lost control of yourself.

I honestly believe this guy will never play in the NFL again. He has major issues that losing an NFL career isn't important enough for him to get help. I honestly hope he turns his life around, but at this point I would be surprised if he ever plays another down in the NFL.

you cant kick josh gordon out of the league for a substance abuse problem if you are going to let guys who have done actual serious shit keep playing. you would have to kick out ray rice, michael vick, pacman jones, ray lewis...etc

wasnt the colts owner arrested for dwi recently? better kick him out of the league too!

I'm not for his banning but that's where this is headed. Ray Rice is a one-time offender (as far as I know). Vick isn't running any more dog rings. Pacman...well, I probably would have banned Pacman but he hasn't crossed the law in a while. Ray Lewis may be a murderer but he was only convicted of obstruction of justice and kept out of trouble after that. Point being that these guys stopped getting into trouble. If Gordon can get a DUI while he is appealing a one-year suspension when is he going to stop? This may be a hopeless case.

On a different note, How they deal with Irsay should be watched even harder in the light of Gordon's issues with the league. If he doesn't get a severe punishment we have to wonder if the NFL is serious about holding owners to a high standard. He shouldn't be treated any easier than Gordon.

maybe its just me but i think beating the shit out of a woman or running a dog fighting ring just once is a lot worse than getting caught smoking marijuana multiple times. what gordon really needs is help, not punishment (ok obviously he deserves some punishment, just not kicking out of the league).

Default Re: Kick Josh Gordon out of the league

if gordon gets kicked out, brandon marshall has gotta go too. check out this rap sheet

Quote:
Oct. 31, 2004: During his junior year at Central Florida, Marshall was arrested at a Denny’s restaurant in Orlando, Fla., on charges of assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, trespass and resisting arrest without violence and refusal to obey. The charges were dismissed.

April 8, 2005: Marshall was charged with retail theft, a misdemeanor, after trying to return a stolen set of bed sheets, valued at $19.99, to a Burlington Coat Factory. The charge was dropped.

June 17, 2006: Marshall and longtime girlfriend Rasheedah Watley both filed police reports alleging physical abuse by the other in a long altercation at an Orlando apartment. No arrests or charges were made.

Jan. 1, 2007: Marshall was at the Denver nightclub Shelter with Broncos teammates Javon Walker and Darrent Williams, attending a birthday party for Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin. As the group left the club in a limousine, Williams was shot fatally in the neck by an unknown assailant. Walker later said the shooter was likely another man at the nightclub who was seeking retaliation after an altercation with Marshall's cousin that evening. Marshall testified at the trial of gunman Willie Clark that he helped escalate the dispute that led to Williams' death.

Jan. 24, 2007: According to the Denver Post, police interviewed Marshall and his father after an argument in an Orlando parking lot. Marshall claimed his father tried to hit him with his car. His father claimed Marshall had fired a gun. Both men declined to press charges.

March 18, 2007: In Atlanta, Watley told police Marshall punched her and took her purse while in a hotel. Marshall was gone before police arrived. No charges were filed.

March 21, 2007: According to the Denver Post, police in Palm Beach County, Fla., interviewed Marshall and Watley twice in the same night after two loud arguments. Both said the disturbances were not physical in nature. No arrests or charges were made.

March 26, 2007: Marshall was arrested in a Denver suburb on suspicion of domestic violence. Watley reported Marshall prevented a taxi she was in from leaving his house. Marshall completed anger management counseling and the charges were dropped two months later.

June 8, 2007: According to the Denver Post, two incident reports were filed by Atlanta police. A friend of Watley’s claimed Marshall hit her car and then threw a rock at the passenger door as Watley was riding in the passenger seat. Watley also told police Marshall cut her in the thigh and punched her in the face. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Marshall was not present when police arrived. No charges were filed.

June 30, 2007: According to the Denver Post, Watley told Atlanta police Marshall punched and choked her at his condo. She had a bruise and scratches. Marshall was not present when police arrived. No charges were filed.

Oct. 22, 2007: Marshall was arrested in Denver and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was pulled over driving the wrong way on a one-way street hours after a game. He later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability-impaired and was sentenced to one year of probation and 24 hours of community service.

March 6, 2008: Marshall was arrested on charges of misdemeanor battery in Atlanta after a dispute with Watley. She told police he punched her in the mouth and eye. Marshall said he cut his hand on glass.

Aug. 6, 2008: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Marshall for three games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The suspension was reduced to one regular-season game and a fine of an additional game check, costing him $52,353.

March 1, 2009: Marshall was arrested in Atlanta on disorderly conduct charges after allegedly being involved in a dispute with then-fiancee, Michi Nogami-Campbell, now his wife. Charges were dropped the next day.

Aug. 14, 2009: Marshall was found not guilty on the battery charges from the March 2008 arrest in Atlanta.

April 23, 2011: Marshall was taken to Broward General Medical Center after Nogami-Campbell stabbed him in the abdomen at their Florida home. Nogami-Campbell told police she stabbed Marshall “out of self-defense.”

Sunday: Marshall is accused by a 24-year-old woman of punching her in the eye, leaving a black eye, in an altercation outside a club in New York. Marshall’s attorney says it was Marshall’s wife that was injured and says the couple are the true victims in the case.

Yeah, I think the way the NFL handles suspensions is pretty wrongheaded. How is keeping guys like Gordon/Blackmon away from their teams supposed to get them on the right track? Not that the NFL owes them anything, but it seems in their best interest to get these young stars back onto the field ASAP once they've served their suspensions.

Yes, the NFL's pot rules are ridiculous and they could be lightened considerably in the next CBA. However, they are in place and Josh Gordon seems to not give a shit. He will probably be kicked out of the NFL, but it's his own fault for continuing this behavior and not getting help.

Nanners is absolutely right, the NFL is filled with scummy criminals who have done tons worse than smoking pot, but the NFL still implements these stupid pot rules and Josh Gordon's career is being ruined by them. That doesn't mean that Gordon isn't at fault and is incredibly stupid for continuing this behavior and not seeking help.

he got a DUI guys, which IS serious shit, unlike smoking pot

He will be suspended the entire season, which means he has to go another full year+ without getting in trouble. That seems unlikely since he seems to be in headlines for something dumb every other week. I wouldn't be shocked if he was rolling a blunt right now while stopped at a red light.

He shouldn't get kicked out of league.

He should get help.

Addiction is a medical issue. It's a medical disease.

Help him.

Educate yourselves. He's not carrying guns, hurting women. Getting in fights with other human beings.

He's doing what 80% of the league does. Smokes weed and or drives drunk.

Smh. Smh.

He just got caught. And obviously if he was dumb enough to drink and drive facing suspension, he probably has a problem.

The things these other guys did are worse but the point is Gordon has been unable to change. IMO weed should be legal but the reality is it isn't and now that he's in the substance abuse program Gordon has to change. The NFL is not going to let him continue playing if he keeps on getting caught. And you have to admit, the timing of this latest DUI is awful. Gordon could easily be forgiven if he could simply stop. But, can he stop?

Smoking marijuana should not be met with harsh punishment or be dealt with "He really needs help guys". Wish this country would legalize the shyt. Beer can be consumed at games. NFL has a f*cking sponser by Bud Light. But you cant smoke weed? This is how ass backwards stuff is. Yeah yeah yeah its on the dont do list. But keep shit in perspective. Smoking weed doesnt harm anyone. Be lenient with the shit.

Driving while intoxicated is a serious thing. So the DWI? Yeah, crack the whip on him. But the marijuana smoke? Stop

Pacman came into the nfl with a rap sheet. Extended his rap sheet and still plays. Josh Gordon unable to change?? How about you give him the same exact amount of time you did Pacman Jones, Brandon Marshall ie repeated offenders.

"But can they stop..."

Again, I'm not calling for his banning. I just think that this is where his issues are taking him with the NFL. It isn't fair but I could definitely see Goodell treating this more harshly because Goodell seems to make examples out of guys. Like giving the one-year suspension in the first place. To me that's a crazy suspension to hand out for smoking weed but that appears to be how Goodell rolls. And then getting a DUI during your appeal for the suspension? I don't think something like that is just about being stupid. You could get someone with a certified mental handicap to understand that they would be putting their career in severe jeopardy if they didn't stay clean. He has to have known what could happen. He chose to screw up anyway. So I wonder if he has a deeper issue.
