So what now? If either Mexico or Venezuela wins Canada will be out?

Canada's out no matter what. They better start ponying up for a Wild Card.

Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Argentina qualify.

I saw on FIBA Americas wiki and it seems not to be up-to-date at that point, so thank you for clarification.

So Venezuela cannot qualify if they beat Jamaica and have a better point differential than Mexico and Argentina? I think you're right that head to head counts more than point differential and they lost to both Mexico and Argentina in the preliminary round.

I still see Brazil getting the wild card from the Americas along with Russia, Turkey and China.

PR lost. They didn't even use starters 1 minute. They used the bench against them and lost. It was close up to the 3:00 minute mark. They obviously didn't care at all. But everything is good though we qualified!!!

I hope our first team we play against is Greece.

Disappointing finish to the tournament for Canada, just a few games ago we reeled off three straight twenty point blowouts but then end with 3 close losses.

This team just isn't ready, we had the lead in all three loses and couldn't hold on.

I am disappointed, but as of today we aren't a team that factors into any equation.

Nicholson(23), Thompson(22) and Joseph(22) are all young and were team leaders, so the future does look good. Brady Heslip(23) should also be in future line ups and he may have been our 4th best player.

2020 will be the year that this whole thing comes together, but we need to qualify in 2016 and so the program needs to go with its youth movement now. This idea of working in the vets was good, in theory, but skill proved out and our young NBA guys were the ones who ended up leading.

Wiggins and Bennett would have helped this team immensely, as we were very weak at the 3 spot and had to play way too much Aaron Doornekamp.

Wiggins, Bennett and Olynyk will be our first infusion of star caliber talent (lottery level) since Steve Nash left the program, so I expect a significant bump in the future. Right now Tristan Thompson is the only 'star' level player we have.

2016-2020 should look like this:

Point guards:
Joseph, Ennis, Pangos
Wings:
Wiggins, Heslip, Staukas
Stretch:
Bennett, Nicholson
Posts:
Thompson, Olynyk, Lyles, Bhullar

Joseph has proven he can play point at this level, Nicholson can score here, Thompson can definitely contribute and Heslip shot his way onto future teams.

Add Wiggins and Bennett, who should be NBA all stars by then (yeah yeah I know, but I am telling you Bennett is legit) and Olynyk who will be a rotation guy and this team goes up 5 fold.

If Trey Lyles and Tyler Ennis make it to the NBA as projected there is even more talent.

Nick Staukas and Kevin Pangos are longer shots to make the NBA but come in here as dead eye shooters and heady ball players both with a ton of PG experience.

I am excited about the future but bitterly disappointed in the present.

how do the wild cards work?

are they just picked by fiba or is there some competition to get them?

im hoping to go to a couple of the games in barcelona next summer, and it would be a minor dissapointment if wiggins isnt there.

FIBA will just pick 4 teams. I read somewhere that the 4 teams are likely to be 2 teams from Europe, China and Brazil, so the chance for Team Canada is low.

Brazil because they are hosting the Olympics, and China because there are a lot of them. 2 Euros because all sports governing bodies are Eurocentric corrupt pieces of shit run by criminals like Jaques Rogge and Sepp Blatter.

I concur with everything you just said. This team is going to be dangerous in the future. They have a lot of NBA future stars and their other players have a lot of upside too.
