Default Tracy McGrady thanks Raptors fans despite all the booing at Air Canada Centre

http://www.thestar.com/sports/raptor...da_centre.html

Quote:
Tracy McGrady has thanked the fans of three of the NBA teams he played for, including the Toronto Raptors.

McGrady, who announced his retirement earlier in the week, tweeted out Wednesday photos of himself when he played with the Raptors, Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets.

“Thank you Toronto. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to begin my career in the NBA. You believed in me and there my journey began. This incredible city will always hold a very special place in my heart.” — Tracy McGrady

The message comes despite the fact that McGrady was the constant target of boobirds at the Air Canada Centre, even after a decade he left for the Magic.

Thoughts ?

Wish him the best in China or wherever he ends up, never blamed him for wanting to be the man on his own team and not in the shadow of VC.

Think he makes it into the HOF?

I would say that it is unlikely.

He absolutely should be in the Hall of Fame, but I think it's questionable whether he will because of his much talked about struggles in the playoffs. The guy is one of the better basketball players to ever play in the NBA. He had a sustained period of elite play, his numbers are phenomenal, on purely individual merits, he deserves it 100%.

Will lack of rings and team success hurt him? Absolutely but it shouldn't, and I hope it doesn't, he deserves to be in.

He's a Hall of Famer. Probably won't get in on the first ballot but there have been so many entries that more or less have McGrady type careers but have ended up making it.

McGrady was a better player than guys like Reggie Miller and Chris Mullin, but Miller gets in because of being the all-time leader in 3 pointers at the time; Mullin for gold medals. They made the HOF with a lack of rings and not being one of the true elites players year by year (McGrady was for a short period).

Bernard King is the best example to McGrady and he just got inducted into the HOF this year.

I personally think he's going to make it in, just wanted to see what everyone else thought since he isn't considered a lock to make it.

T-Mac has his moments that should be enough to be inducted in the HoF, but he is not a first-ballot for sure.

Yeah, thanks TMac, for leaving Toronto when we were on the verge of actually having something special. Good job

As for the HOF, I wouldn't be surprised if he made it, and wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.

Tmac will make it in albiet it will be a long wait. As mentioned above if Bking made it ; it suggests both Tmac and Vince will get in based on offensive efficiency (for their games) someday.

Tmac's career will always be assesed as "what if" more so than any other player of his generation I think.

One of the last players to ever be drafted out of high school.

Paired with Vince Carter - "what if they had stayed together to form a core"? Toronto fans still seemingly dwell on this.

Paired with Grant Hill in Orlando - even a bigger upside potentially- "what if Grant had been healthy during those seasons'?

Paired with Yao Ming in Houston - even bigger upside potentially - "what if Yao had been healthy during those seasons"? Shaq / Kobe version 2.0 ?
