Default Which Team Says No? Houston or Golden State?

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ka9htap

Golden State gets:
Omer Asik and Greg Smith

Houston gets:
David Lee

Houston gets the four man they need and Golden State can now be a primarily small ball team. Golden State could also now have Bogut as an expiring contract to play around with at the deadline.

Neither team says no. Houston snaps the phone in half and shoves it up the interns ass and then laughs.

They're going to trade Asik. You don't keep that kind of asset to have a really overqualified back up center. They need a power forward or a point guard. David Lee, for all his defensive deficiencies, would be a great fit offensively for Houston.

This, though to a lesser extent.

Lee is the slightly better player, and GS would say no. Bogut is a more than adequate center, and also has no range. Lee is not the perfect player for their team, but he is a better fit alongside Bogut than Asik.

A better trade partner would be Dallas. I'm sure there are better than Dallas, but they are the first team that came to mind. Asik and Beverly for Calderon and a first.

Edit for other trade ideas:
Asik for Haslem/Chalmers
Asik for Blake(better fit than Lin)/Hill/first

Bogut is a better player than Asik... Much better, even. I guess no one is betting on his health.

This thread is striking to me. I am floored that ANYONE could possibly believe that A) David Lee is a better basketball player or B) should be making 2X as much money.

GSW got BETTER when Lee went down because Landry and Ezeli are so much better defensively.

Houston not only says "No!" but they block calls from GSW until a new GM is named.

Lee is the quintessential reason ASG selections don't matter. Everyone in that locker room knew Steph was the leader and best player on the team. Everyone that has watched 10 minutes of GSW basketball knew it.

Asik not only led the NBA in rebounding last year but was one of the best ~5-7 defenders in the NBA.

Lets take a look at David Lee's playoff career:

1 start.

Well that was fun. For a 30 year old making >15.3MM its a little light on the appearances though...

Houston says no. I rather get some average PF than get 'avid Lee

'avid Lee is untradable considering his contract. He might be a negative player despite averaging 20/10. If Houston gets Lee, Dwight fouls out in 20 minutes every game.

Lee doesn't deserve his money, but he has more useful NBA skills. Elite rebounder, strong passer, shooter, always plays hard, has proven to be durable.
Asik is still a relative unknown, that is a lesser Sanders/Chandler.

Morey is smart and he knows Asik's value is high right now. He was a top 3 defensive center in the NBA last year. Morey is in no way at rush to trade Asik so he won't trade him for Lee.

Asik is way better than Lee anyway and Omer also has the better contract.

Chandler has been doing it for a while but (and I'm a Bucks fan) Asik has a better (longer) track record than Sanders. His D metrics were omitted as outliers for years when he was in Chicago because he was a top 10 defender playing against 2nd teamers.

Lee is a solid offensive player. I don't mind him at all. He even rebounds pretty well. But he isn't Asik and he is going to get 45MM over the next three years and is on the wrong side of 30.
