Default Eagles Prediction: Maclin will have better career than DeSean

I posted the pictures so you can compare the size of the two. I love the comparisons that Maclin has received, both to Reggie Wayne and Torry Holt. (Not saying he will be as great as either, but he will be very, very good) What are the outside opinions of Maclin? This prediction isn't just mine but something I've heard circulate a lot around people who have watched both closely. Of course what makes DeSean a better "weapon" is his return ability and probably being the 2nd fastest player in the league to CJ, while Maclin has the better hands, route running, body, while being no slouch as a speed guy. Only player that played worth anything in the playoff loss (7 catches, 146 yards, TD).

What are the outside-Philly thoughts on these 2? Or even opinions from Philly guys such as GOBB, marlo, and rasheed? Who will have the better career?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Waq3Kvbig4 (that's Talib at 1:05 and Corey Webster on the next play, and oh yeah thats primetime's boy Mike Jenkins in the last play... you see the speed at 1:43 )

and here is more Maclin and Jenkins...

I don't know about Maclin, but I don't think that highly of DeSean, I kind of think that Wade exposed DeSean last year and how to take him out of games...he is too small to out leap DBs and grab balls...if DeSean doesn't blow by you with his speed then he will NOT catch the ball...so all you have to do is tak e one saftey out of zone and glue him to DeSean...and there he is DONE for the game...except for maybe a reverse and some short stuff...

DeSean could open the feild for Mac though...I could see him out-stating DeSean this year for sure...

I hope so, he's my #3 in Marlo's league!

Maclin is a better all around receiver, and I think you are absolutely correct. Maclin is going to be a HOF player in my opinion. And his jersey is the only NFL jersey that I have ever bought to wear. Therefor, Maclin> rest of NFL.

he is still just 6'0"...200 lbs

Holt and Wayne are the same size, but look at who has been throwing them the ball over their careers...

gonna be really hard for Maclin to be known as an "elite" imo...

Donald Driver, Derrick Mason, Marvin Harrison, Isaac Bruce, Hines Ward and Ochocinco are also guys who have had great careers with similar size. Roddy White is of similar size. Jerry Rice was 6'2" but similar weight and no one would call him a big guy. Being 6'3" + is an advantage but talent can easily overcome it.

true...true

with the exception of Mason though, all had star QBs...and has Mason ever really been viewed as an elite?

Maclin's success and Kolb's success will go hand in hand...

Fitz, Calvin, Andre...all can put up huge numbers with shitty QBs...but they are f*ckin big

Steve Smith [Carolina] is 5'9" for god-sakes. Height has nothing to do with it as long as you're talented and athletic.

Add Rod Smith and Jimmy Smith to my list while were at it. I'm not claiming HOF or elite, but I'm saying a consistent 80 catch/1100 yard/8 TD guy with seasons that will be above those numbers. Those could be the #s you expect him to reach each season of his prime, no less.

He'll pop out 1 or 2 90+ catch seasons, pass 10 TD's, pass 1300's yards...but those are the numbers you will expect as an average.

I don't view Maclin like Wayne mostly due to the technician Wayne is and always has been, but perhaps Maclin can become a great wideout down the road if he's dedicated.

BUMP.

* Maclin will finish with 1 more game played

Maclin - 64 catches, 890 yards (13.9 avg), 10 TD's (tied for 5th in league)
DeSean - 45 catches, 1,024 yards (22.8 avg), 6 TD's

Maclin on pace for 73 catches, 1017 yards, and 11-12 TD's

Maclin, Nicks, Britt, Harvin, Crabtree, M. Wallace, M. Thomas, Collie, Knox, Gibson....that draft last year was pretty deep in WR's

Maclin may be more durable over his career to have the better career than Djax.
