Bargnani plays preseason game in Toronto
Andrea Bargnani didn’t torment his former teammates. But Carmelo Anthony did.
Three months after he was traded to the Knicks, Bargnani was back in Toronto on Friday with a chance to stick it to his former team. After making him the top pick in the 2006 draft, the Raptors dealt him in July, viewing him as inconsistent in his seven years there. The heckling started early, bellowing down from the rafters every time he touched the ball.
But it was Anthony who treated the game like a personal homecoming with much to prove, torching the Raptors and former Knicks Steve Novak and Landry Fields for 24 points and eight rebounds in a 100-91 loss at the Air Canada Centre in the second game of the Knicks’ preseason. Anthony downplayed the aggressive way he played, but it was clear he competed with a little extra zest compared to the exhibition opener Wednesday against Boston.
