As I said, unimpressive game 1 victory even more unimpressive game 2 loss. The defense wasn't there, the ball wasn't moving, again Rudy Gay was horrible. Only thing that made this game respectable in terms of the scoreline was all those ISO buckets that Derozan was putting in. If it wasn't for that this could've easily been a 20 point loss. And ATL is supposed to be a team in our tier.

Val 18 minutes

Starting to think Casey has something against this guy. I didn't watch the game so maybe there is something I'm missing? But imo you need to let the kid play, make mistakes and learn. I worry about Val's development under this coaching staff.

I would wonder (Val) as well. I mean Casey seems to be spreading minutes everywhere early.

Its only game 2 so I wont call it a trend yet... but I would hope and expect Val to get minutes comparable to Demar and Rudy. There were no reports he was fighting of the flu or something ?

Never confuse "educated lucky guess with good". My Proline has been humming though.

Game 3: Toronto 109 Milwaukee 107 in OVERTIME

I am thinking this game is a push and if the tie is a good payout anywhere you bet - it could be a good payoff.

^^ In the preseason, I was wondring aloud if we were gonna run a lot of plays through Val. We still have a ton of Gay/Derozan ISO ball. It's so easy to figure out. I understand that they are our 2 best players, but that doesn't mean we should say f*ck Val's development give them the ball and clear the floor. So tired of Casey.

I miss Bargs. Back when he was playing, we never had problems with our offense because he was another guy who could stretch the floor and command a double team.

Caught some of the raps hawks game the other night. I hate the long 2s that gay and demar take after they iso. Not enough ball movement, need to work it from inside to out. Val was solid on defense, didnt establish himself enough in the low post imo. One thing is for certain casey sucks as a coach and that won't change. Messy defensive rotations, and too many iso plays.

We have our first this year though.

We've seen Rudy shoot better than that, so i'm willing to chalk it up to a bad stretch of games because he is a streaky player. BUT his ball handling and decision making have been absolutely atrocious. I never thought i'd say this but Derozan has been the better decision maker, ball handler, shooter, and passer. And something is wrong with that equation considering the reasons we brought him in for. I'm starting to see DD as like a poor man's Richard Jefferson.

Miami game should be a litmus test of commitment to development - of a sort - assuming big Val is healthy happy and smart. It seems to me the teams that pound inside are the teams with the most success against the Heat. Furthermore 25 foot floaters and ISO Gay / Derozan WILL NOT work very well against "those two guys in Miami" playing opposite them.. do you think ? This game is actually a great litmus to see just how far the coaching staff had developed multiple approaches to win this season.

Outcome is the same tho

Game 4 : Miami Heat 105 Toronto Raptors 94

I think the reason we don't see Val in the latter half of games is the same reason Sam Mitchell was benching Bargs late in games. He's under the pressure cooker. For us fans we see the long term value in a guy like Val and therefore we want to see him play down the stretch. For him, he'd rather do the easy thing and play a small ball lineup that he trusts more to try and secure the win.

Pretty much.

Hurting the development of a potential all-star for a chance at a few more meaningless wins. It's so frustrating because you see the flashes of greatness with Valanciunas and then all of a sudden he's riding the bench.
