No really though, some new blood could possibly be what we need to get past the wild-card round and finally get a playoff win. I just don't see it happening as long as Marvin Lewis is heading the ship. Dalton has to improve, and Lewis is going to have to do something different. Change the status quo, whatever. The same shit hasn't worked in a decade as long as he's been there. Sure, there's been improvements in the past 10 years, but there's been some major disappointments and honestly it's just been too long with Marvin Lewis. I don't expect anything more than sheer disappointment as long as he's in Cincinnati.

I swear, I feel like completely giving up on this franchise. I don't blame Gruden and Zimmer for doing what they did. I'd get the hell out of there too.

On the Bengals site I post on, you would be surprised at how many people defend Marv.

The way I look at it, many acknowledge that the Bengals have drafted extremely well over the past 3-4 years, and it's that in house talent that has elevated this team. But then the Marv defenders want to point out that it isn't his fault they can't get past the 1st round. So what is it then? Is the draft talent overrated? One can't say that the team has done a great job of drafting, AND also point out that the losing isn't Marv's fault. It's one or the other, but the way I see it, Marv has been the one consistent factor through it all. A truly great coach would be able to get a talented roster like this over the hump.

Us keeping Marv and trying to chase down greatness is like Urkel trying to chase down Laura on family matters. Give it up and come up with a plan B.

Broncos Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase has withdrawn his name from the Browns Head Coaching search.

He called the Browns and told them to move forward without him.

The favorites for the Browns job now appear to be Seahawks Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn and Bills Defensive Coordinator Mike Pettine.

So, when they fired Chud everyone thought the Browns must've known who their next HC was going to be, but now it appears that they just have no clue what they're doing or where the search is going.

The entire front office needs to be fired as far as I'm concerned. I'd like to see Haslam go to, but that's not likely to happen. At least not until he gets thrown in prison.

It looks like the Browns are going to hire Bills Defensive Coordinator Mike Pettine as their new Head Coach.

Mark Gaughan from the Buffalo News just tweeted this:

Quote:

I'm hearing Mike Pettine is going to get Browns job. A deal is close.

The search was a disaster for the Browns, but if the Browns hire Pettine then it is a good hire IMO. His Bills defense was extremely good last year, and he's a Rex Ryan disciple. Obviously he's going to have to hire a very good Offensive Coordinator (maybe one with Head Coaching experience).

As a Jets fan, I didn't find him to be a particularly great coordinator. They were usually far more conservative when he was calling the plays. Their blitz percentage went way down with Pettine calling the plays in 11 and 12, and then it went back up again when Rex took back playcalling duties.

He's not bad, but I just don't think he would really move the Browns forward in a significant way.

Browns had to settle for a 'meh' candidate because nobody wanted to go there. Reminds me when Joe Gibbs left and nobody wanted to coach the Redskins so they had to settle for Jim Zorn lol.

Browns already had a great defensive identity and still lost 12 games. I guess we'll see what kind of staff they put together but it seems likes a surefire downgrade from Chud, Norv, Norton but who knows?

Browns haven't offered Pettine the job yet, and they interviewed two more guys today.

They interviewed Falcons Offensive Coordinator Dirk Koetter and former Bucs coach Greg Schiano...yes..Greg Schiano.

The interesting aside on the Schiano interview was that Belicheck personally contacted Jimmy Haslam and told him he should take a serious look at Schiano. I'm not sure if Bill was doing some next level sh!t by trying to bury our franchise even further or if he genuinely believes in Greg.

Either way, it has leaked that Schiano is out of the conversation for head coach. It's possible he could be an assistant.
