people don't have gripes about making chicken pot pie, or filet mignon, or bloody steak, or pork chops for dinner, and that's because the meat you get is cut up already and the animal has already been killed.
lobsters and crabs are a different thing. not sure how many of your families cook them by yourselves (though I am sure many of you go to restaurants to eat seafood), but there is apparently a moral dilemma involving killing lobsters.
basically you cook em by putting them alive into boiling water, apprently they feel pain.
i try to ignore that fact, pretend it never happens. The again if you consider how animals kill each other in the wild, it's probably just as brutal, if not more. So if we consider ourselves animals, its only natural we do it like they do on the discovery channel. (sorry bad joke  )
most seafood are best fresh, especially shellfish (lobster, crab, shrimp). they don't have long storage life and you can tell frozen from fresh if you like seafood. it may be wrong but that's the best way to eat them.
well some people propose cleaving the nerve clusters in the lobster's head first. or desensitiziing them in saline solution (>15%) or even freezing them for a while so they are numb to the hot water pain.
apparently, the lobsters make a death sound when you put them into boiling water.
