so basically manziel will need to get on a team with one of the best defenses in the league?

Thats great for a 3rd pick. Thats not really what you want out of #1 overall pick. Out of a #1 pick you want a guy that you can build around.

Houston IS one of the best defenses in the league

being on a "good team" is a must for any team to win the SB though...there is no QB that wins a SB single handedly

Apples and oranges. Wilson was drafted after 74 players, he never was touted as a guy to be taken before all the other guys. It would have been lunacy for IND to take him first.

Also, just because Russell is now a SB winning QB doesn't mean he was all that integral to postseason success. He was pretty good in the reg season, had only a couple big time throws in ALL of the playoffs. It's not like he performed in the playoffs the way Flacco did the year before.

Wilson has never been a 'just wing it' QB. He's composed and has a steady demeanor. Manziel plays totally different than Wilson ever has, despite any similarities to being short. Even that, Johnny looks like a boy on the field. Wilson is short but still has a much more solid frame to absorb hits.

eh, I kind of disagree with that...Wilson makes "shit happen" by scrambling around

also Wilson weighed 204 lbs at the combine...Manziel is said to be 209 lbs, although an inch or 2 taller than Russell...his "bulk" really isn't far off from Russell's

IMO they are "somewhat" similar...a decent comparison can be made IMO

It should be Teddy Bridgewater. I think it will be Bortles.

Yea he def can make shit happen on the fly. I guess my point is that most of Manziel's highlight stuff, transcendent strengths come from him taking advantage of over pursuits, broken plays, getting outside the pocket, etc. Not really a system player to me.

Wilson has just as much ability to sit in the pocket and be calm and execute the play's intent as he does running around and creating on the fly. He can do both and in college, Wilson always showed he could trust the play and sit there and stay level. Being able to make something out of nothing and looking to abandon the design of the play prematurely are two entirely diff things.

Truth be told, Bortles fits the type of QB mold that has gotten O'Brien high marks in coaching FAR more than what Manziel does. He's a traditional pocket QB type coach. I don't think Manziel fits HOU new staff and I don't think he is worthy to be taken before ALL other college prospects

^^^if you look at Manziel's TDs this past year...the vast majority of them go with what the play was designed to do...the "system"

there is PLENTY of Manziel being calm in the pocket, checking down his WRs routes, and making the correct throw

there are ALSO plays where it is just 'Manziel magic' and IMO those are just the huge added + that Manziel brings...they are NOT what he is limited to doing and shouldn't be viewed that way.

I think that is a false way of thinking that many NFL fans have because when you see Manziel highlights on ESPN it is always his crazy magic shit, and not the routine stuff, so in the heads of fans all he does every play is scramble all over the place and improvise...

the guy can play ball...there is no question about that to me...the ONLY question that Manziel brings up for me is..."can he stay healthy"

If Clowney blows up the combine like many think.....he will be in the convo.

The more I think about it, the more I lean towards Clowney.

If you can build a dominant defense, you don't need supreme production from the QB. Seattle proved that. Patriots proved that in their first title. Ravens, Bucs, etc.

What's better than JJ Watt? Two JJ Watts.

Thanks for the video. Def NFL ability in some of those throws. However, A LOT of that shit isn't gunna fly in the NFL. Him running around the field simply won't work like that. Esp if he's trying so hard to put on some weight, won't be as elusive.

I still like Bridgewater & Bortles better than him at the NFL level. Johnny can pass but he won't be a special passer in the NFL. That's not to say he can't be effective with his arm, he just isn't a wow passer. He desperately needs a coach that will reign him in to see the field first and foremost or he will put himself at risk and turn the ball over a lot. Just my .02.

Don't think he should but I think Houston will look to take a QB and Bridgewater and Manziel don't seem like O'Brien guys. Call it a hunch.
